This seems like a really hard question to capture the nuance of in a poll, because in theory I'm anti-monarchy but in practice I think trying to renegotiate the constitution would end very badly.
Perhaps unusually for an atheist I actually kind of like church, I just don't believe in any of the spiritual stuff underlying it.
Curse you for being 0.0006 better than me on a scale I don't really understand!
This is the really hard problem with social networks (or any sufficiently large, open community): If most people are chill but a small number of people are really dedicated to being annoying, everyone winds up annoyed all the time even though most of the community is calm and reasonable.
People are always saying like "People on Bsky can't read/don't understand jokes/etc." but I wonder how widespread this stuff is. There could be 10K really active reply guys who're constantly in the replies of popular accounts, & that would be really annoying but it's only a small % of the user base.
Test score is 0.0059
Very slightly better, although I wonder how much the results are influenced by the monitor, lighting conditions, etc.
Once again thinking about the time a Canadian Cabinet minister had to apologise and repay the government after buying a single glass of orange juice that was deemed too expensive.
Been bouncing back and forth between playing Animal Crossing and the new Resident Evil, and let me tell you, those games do not have the same vibe.
Interesting that Lewis has a much lower average donation, suggesting that he's done a better with small donors than the other two candidates for whom numbers are available.
Avg donation for Lewis: $118
McPherson: $147
Ashton: $177
Checking out a band called "Black Sabbath". Not sure if you guys have heard of them? They seem pretty niche. Fun guitar riffs.
(OK there's also a third option, which is to accept but ignore the evidence. You could say "Sure, I accept that global warming is real, but I'll be dead soon enough and I don't care", but most people aren't nihilists and they want their beliefs and their values to line up.)
When the evidence shows, over and over again, that the things you believe are wrong, there's really only two options - either you change what you believe, or you deny the existence of the evidence. And if you deny the evidence often enough, eventually you wind up not believing in evidence at all.
If you look honestly at the evidence, it's clear that global warming is real, that immigrants contribute positively to the economy, that safe supply saves lives, that more access to guns creates more violence, that sex and gender are complicated, and on and on.
This is good but completely overlooks what is in my opinion one of the most important reasons conservatives have largely abandoned the scientific method: on a wide range of issues, the evidence keeps proving that progressives are correct.
holy shit
It's great that the way copyright works now is if you're an artist the fascists get to use your art for free and the AI companies get to steal your art and make money off it, but if a random person uploads a Youtube video with a recognisable song playing in the background, that's illegal.
Vegan now, yeah. I do a salt and pepper tofu recipe with that spice mix. It also tastes great on roasted potatoes.
Most used mix is probably Chinese five spice, but for most cooking Iβm making spice combos specifically for that dish rather than using a prepared combo. Salt + Szechuan peppercorn + white pepper is one of my go-tos.
Interesting stat from the latest Steam hardware survey: More than half of Steam users have their system language set to simplified Chinese. Only 22% of Steam users have their computer set to English.
Yeah thatβs totally fair. I still use MS Office for work stuff. But Iβve used Libre Office on my personal computers for years.
Iβve used Libre Office for years and definitely recommend it.
Iβm also not sure if itβs something that can actually be solved. Some kinds of economic activity naturally coalesce around population density, and I donβt think any government policy can really change that.
There seems to be a big conversation going on in US politics Bsky today about the urban/rural divide, and my one contribution to this discussion is to point out that the urban/rural divide is a pretty consistent feature of politics in the wealthy democracies.
Not going to do a dunk tweet but I love all the AI guys (and they are always guys) who are like, "Oh, you don't think the computer that can't do math is conscious? Prove it by arguing all of philosophy from first principles!"
TO MY MOTHER As I write, four men have admitted to my mother Daphne's assassination. Another four men, who deny wrongdoing and are presumed innocent, are awaiting trial. There will be more cases against more defendants and, at some point, people will lose sight of my mother. This book is to introduce you to her before she is lost again.
Well, fuck.
Most of the talk about OpenAI, Anthropic and βmass surveillanceβ neglected to mention that widespread scraping of the web is in itself mass surveillance.
