Ha yes the bookshop ‘smut hut’ is genius. Yes relaxation and emotional regulation, I think romance can be very uplifting and a balm when so much is going on in our lives and the world.

Currently reading Olivia Laing’s Everybody: A Book About Freedom and it’s very much what needs to be read in this moment, for me at least. It looks at the history of bodily freedom through various movements in history. It’s more of a conversation than anything approaching a solution.
Also step one in writing is having something to say. You can't convince me that people use AI for writing because they, within themselves, have something to say. They merely want the rewards of claiming to have said.
I read widely (including non-fiction!) but I also love romance and paranormal romance (and a bit of romantasy). I find a lot of comfort and emotional regulation in them, plus more likely to find bisexual/sapphic rep in modern romance. Romance can explore serious topics too.
