I also loved the story. Certainly isn't perfect but the change in gameplay from losing your main magic healer and damage dealer is kinda emblematic on how I mean about friction. Its a hole that you never quite get back. You may be able to replace Cloud, but you can't *quite* replace Aerith.

I liked the materia system because it adds this extra layer to magic and worldbuilding, even if it adds friction in gameplay.

GenQ, which ones? I really like the materia system even if it takes some experimentation, I like that limits don't vanish between fights, and most of the rest of the mechanics are fairly normal RPG fare iirc. My maybe only gripe is how long it takes to fill the AP on materia.

At this point they'd function is as a currency exchange, which adds fees, adds transaction times, and is one step removed from what we basically already have with additional costs.

Like there's not enough characters to point to all of my misgivings with crypto, but widespread adoption hikes up fees, causes gas runs, gives disproportionate power and wealth to early adopters, all again tied to *nothing*. Even stablecoins aren't immune, since Inu keeps mentioning them.

Crypto loses value seemingly randomly as again, its not actually tied to anything. It's also prone to startling amounts of deflation, meaning people who have the money to buy in early or have the money to begin with only get more and more of the total stake.

Fiat currency is backed by more than just trust, it's backed by the entire GDP of a nation as well. Crypto doesn't have any real-world ties to it other than hype and trust, and it's fundamentally an environment that doesn't reward trust.

Any crypto that sees large-scale use is going to fall into the same pitfalls of increasing usage fees and lengthening transaction times. Gas fees and gas wars alone make it nonviable as a large-scale platform.
