“Retro Anime Aesthetic” is also a very loaded statement on their part. Kinda lumping entire decades worth anime into one pile, despite there being a major amount of variety between each series.

It really feels like people (not just weebs) see any time period from before they were born as if it wasn't real and instead as some fantasy period where everything was just "better" then the present so they romanticize it and by extent, the aesthetics from their media as "retro" by default

Like, I sometimes think about when Soul Hackers 2 came out in 2022 and weebs on twitter were complaining that it "didn't have the retro anime style of the first game" when the first game's aesthetic wasn't retro, that's JUST what anime art styles looked like in 1997
