I don’t want it. I want to downgrade. I want to get less access. I want the opposite of what you’re selling.

My college students are writing articles on AI and the future of the arts from a consumer perspective (they are electrical, motor vehicle and carpentry students resitting their GCSE English Language). When asked how they’d feel if they connected with a song or a story and were then told it was AI…
So, the Sun was an immigrant, eh? Hope certain people in the US don't hear about this.
This whole thread is helpful, but I just want to highlight this. Last year, I put Scrivener on my phone, and I worked on various projects whenever I was in line, waiting for my kids during dance class, any kind of down time.
Harsh reality: writing a book takes time. You have to put in the hours.
But how do you find them? When there are a bajillion things going on in your life?
Here's what I did that worked. ⤵️
Image of an early public demonstration of the telephone, captioned "new phone, who dis?"
It's the 150th anniversary of the first telephone call, and who can forget Alexander Graham Bell's first, immortal words?
Long before #Superman appeared in films or on television, the first person to portray the Man of Steel in public was Broadway performer Ray Middleton - an often-overlooked figure who holds a unique place in Superman history.

NASA’s Chandra Telescope took this image of a young (100 million year-old) sun‑like star HD 61005 ~120 light years away showing formation of an early heliosphere and how stellar winds interact with local galactic environments around forming planetary systems.

There are a lot of posts out there with the close-up visual of Markwayne Mullin on January 6, but this is a better perspective.
He’s not protecting others; he’s protecting himself and hiding. You can see plenty of people at the entry door, ready to take on the insurrectionists, but not Markwayne.
Covers for US editions of STAR TREK Fotonovels.

When someone says „Scientists do not want you to know“ you can dismiss everything from there on. Scientists want you to know. They are desperate that you know. They can’t shut up about what they found out and want you to know.

“War may sometimes be a necessary evil. But no matter how necessary, it is always an evil, never a good. We will not learn how to live together in peace by killing each other’s children.”
— President Jimmy Carter, Nobel Peace Prize Lecture, December 10, 2002
The cover of an issue of the pulp THRILLING WONDER STORIES. A Roman Legionnaire about to blast a gorilla with a ray gun in an alien arena while the woman clinging to him (blonde, of course) looks at us, the viewer.
Sometimes the pulps cut to the heart of the modern condition. What else is 21st century life, after all, but Roman Legionnaires with blasters fighting gorillas in an arena while the women clinging to them break the Fourth Wall by staring at the viewer?
Unsolicited writing advice, no. 551:
Don't try to be consciously clever. Cleverness often gets in the way of telling a good story.
Political cartoon of Donald Trump adding a comma after "no" in the sentence "No More Wars!) with a voice bubble saying "there, I fixed it." And a small sign that says "Iran" with an arrow
Given that he doesn't care about the consequences of his actions, it seems unlikely he would understand the consequences of a comma. But yeah this 🤬
That thing you've always wanted to do? Do it. If it's difficult or hard, or expensive, start planning to make it happen if you can't do it right away.
Even if you don't manage it, you'll know you tried, and dreams are so fucking important to stop us feeling ground into the dirt.
I’m running a mentored volunteer research project and have been using it as a way to teach basic ecology, evolution, philosophy, research methods, professional skills, and practical data collection skills, all with reference to the project we’re doing.
Maybe this is what intro bio should be.
I do not like this gen AI
I do not like what it implies
I do not want it in my art
I do not think it makes you smart
I do not want it in my games
I do not like its goals and aims
I do not want it in my books
I do not like the way it looks
I do not like it, I don't care
I do not want it anywhere
Just announced: Iceland has urgently moved up its referendum to join the European Union - to 29 August.
A reminder: 🇮🇸 is in many ways already a non-voting 🇪🇺 member because of the EEA. This would give them voting power to shape the laws they have to follow.
That would be great.
