Do yourself a favor and go read Hockey Girl Loves Drama Boy by @faitherinhicks.bsky.social. Her character design, facial expressions, and plotting are all exceptional. Her ability to breathe life into her comics is AMAZING. I loved this book!
No Kings, not even Lawler!
Did you know that all toads are frogs, but not all frogs are toads? Learn why and more intriguing facts and information about amphibians in this edition of Science Comics: Frogs by the always amazing @lizprincecomics.bsky.social. Itβs another winning title from @01firstsecond.bsky.social!
A digital drawing of author Maia Kobabe, a white nonbinary person with short brown hair wearing a patterned blue shirt, who scowls while holding up a copy of eir book GENDER QUEER: A MEMOIR. Maia is saying: H.R. 7661 is a national book banning bill which seeks to remove any book that "involves gender dysphoria or transgenderism" from all public schools in the US. This would ban my books, and any other book with trans themes, from public schools. PLEASE call your House Reps and say: NO ON H.R. 7661!

Great minds, baby!
Time is a flat circle!
Hang in there, friend! I am really looking forward to it π
ADDED BONUS: If you are/were into pro wrestling, it doubles as a great parody of classic wrestling magazines, only with updated content from contemporary comics folk. This may be @thekylestarks.bsky.socialβs Mona Lisa. I canβt wait for the final two issues. 5 stars! From @imagecomics.com
Covers to issues 1-3 of Wrestle Heist! by Kyle Starks. They feature characters from the series, pro wrestlers Sterling Steele, Gravedigger, and Bearwolf, in a format that parodies classics wrestling magazines.
Recent comics reading round-up: I just read all three issues of Wrestle Heist! by @thekylestarks.bsky.social and HOLY CROW are you missing out if you are not reading this series. Itβs got action, intrigue, jokes, pathos and pretty much everything I want in a comic book.
I finally got around to reading Run Book One, and it is FANTASTIC. Nothing is ever settled when βprogressβ is made, and itβs informative to have a historical look to deal with the current political and social milieu. Not a damned thing has changed, it seems.
I guessed it next to last, but for other reasons than your stated category. They both worked though!
Itβs like watching The Grandmaster, only not a special effect π³
Cover of Sports is Hell by Ben Passmore. It shows a giant figure wearing football gear and bearing lots of weapons, including an assault rifle and lots of knives and guns in his belt. He is standing on a field of debris littered with skulls, bones, and more weapons. There is a Will Eisner Award sticker as well. The bonus sticker is square and features a figure with a backpack crouching behind a park bench. In the background is a van. Text reads, βABOLISH ICE.β
Great mail day! I got Sports is Hell from @benpassmore.bsky.social! Thank you for the bonus sticker!
Go check his site out to get his books directly from him as he recently changed his distroβ¦
The Red Balloon
Clash of the Titans
The Secret of NIMH
Stand and Deliver
Romeo and Juliet (Zeffirelli version)
I remember seeing the Zeffirelli version of Romeo & Juliet and Stand and Deliver. I would have loved some Three Stooges though!
You know what rocks? Libraries! I just borrowed History Comics: Rosa Parks & Claudette Colvin and it was eye-opening. I appreciated learning much more about Colvin, the inner workings of the civil rights movement, and the effort it takes to make incremental changes. From @01firstsecond.bsky.social
People need to hear and say this more than ever.
FYI one of the new books is a collection of short comics from @fantagraphics.bsky.social and the other a biography of cyclist Major Taylor from @dandq.bsky.social. What a time to be a Fred Noland fan!
I got this book almost 3 years ago, and I am so glad I finally read it. Steady Rollinβ by Fred Noland is a funny, thoughtful, moving collections of autobio comics. And the best part: Heβs got two new books coming out later this year, so Iβll get to see more of his excellent work soon!
I just backed FUN TIME OMNIBUS Vol. One on Kickstarter. Maybe youβd like to, also?
Quite excited about this!
The latest book in my great graphic novel catch-up: The Girl Who Sang. It is a story of survival and hope in the face of fascism. This holocaust survivorβs story is sadly reminiscent of what is happening right now in the USA. Whatever happened to βnever again?!?β
Same. I donβt need to delve into his tragic backstory either.
Latest book on my great graphic novel catch-up: Life Drawing by Jaime Hernandez. I loved catching up on the misadventures of Maggie, Tonta, and the rest of this cast. Itβs an ongoing masterpiece! From @fantagraphics.bsky.social
I liked it, too! I love your loopy and vibrant art, not to mention your sense of humor and fun πΈ
Iβd have to say this is the early leader in the clubhouse. I am honestly shocked he did not exist beforeβ¦
Check out I Am A Slime Monster by @jarodrosello.bsky.social! All three of my kids have read and loved it, especially the titular slime monster. My kids are really into villains, it turns out, and fun, vivid comics. The latest entry in the Super Magic Boy series certainly entertains :)
I guess thatβs Before Watchmen, not the Doomsday Clock ones. Sorry for replying before figuring that outβ¦
Thank you for your service! I am tempted to look at the Darwin Cooke and Amanda Conner ones, but so far have managed to keep away. Have you seen those?
