Yes, the main reason it was so sad was because it was done so well. Jessie Buckley's howl is haunting me. She deserves all the awards coming to her.

There was a trailer for it at our screening of Hamnet yesterday. My daughter and I wondered why they thought people going to see Hamnet would be remotely interested in it. First trailer up as well.

I thought it was excellent and Jessie Buckley was fantastic. I also never want to see it again. Traumatised.

Inspiring thread on a brave man, whose story deserves to be far better known.

Was going to do Dry January, but now it's the weekend.

Talking With Paul Kedrosky So, about this AI thing ...

This was very informative for me, if also rather worrying paulkrugman.substack.com/p/talking-wi...

Loved it. Brilliant adaptation of the book. Del Toro is a genius.

This is a lovely piece and a positive case for AI. My only reservation is that, if we do develop the means to properly communicate with whales, the first they might say is, "You're all absolute wankers!"

My favourite film is Casablanca, and Unforgiven and Gladiator are right up there. But, since I can't see it mentioned so far, I'm going to go with this gem.

An old monochrome picture postcard showing the atrium of a museum gallery, with three floors leading off balconies, a steel and glass structure, and cases and artefacts displayed on the ground floor and in the balconies. At the foot of the card is printed "Great Hall, Royal Scottish Museum, Edinburgh"

Here's a #HigherEducationPostcard of where @qmuniversity.bsky.social started out - its the Royal Scottish Museum, now part of the National Museum of Scotland

Queen Margaret University used rooms here for teaching

Watched it last night too. Fabulous interpretation of the book. The changes were perfect. My wife and I were saying that what we love about Del Toro is that, while his visuals are always sumptuous, they never overwhelm the themes and characterisation in his work.

Emotional and inspiring. It's maybe strange to think of talk show hosts as heroes but Jimmy Kimmel was brave last night.

Been loving S7 and the MLK chapter in particular. Really poignant hearing how he assumed his life would end in assassination.

I've read a lot of dystopian novels and biting political satires, but in none of them did the world's largest economy start a trade war with penguins.

The reason Trump hates Zelensky is that his courage and dignity remind him of what he lacks.
