Books with video game code in BASIC were a big draw for me as an 80s kid.

As one data point, I've had the opposite experience on both counts.
First milestone was being able to walk my new dog on a leash. But then he could pull out when excited.
I've been working on him wearing a harness, which was initially more overwhelming for him than a collar. We just had our first morning walk with harness and he did try to get out. Rolled. And ok!
True, BUT there is something to the worry that a bad enough Democratic candidate may normalize the party as a whole abandoning people.
The only thing worse than what we have now is if local politics stop protecting.
