The extension that shows your "real" view count also isn't accurate.

Anyone who performed age verification with Persona could be extensively compromised online.

in any other medium they would be called viewers
lurking isn't malicious, they are quietly enjoying your show
if you have people in your community quietly enjoying your work, you've fucking made it as an entertainer

This is one of the things I point to when I talk about parasociality being a two-way-street.
You, as a creator, are not owed your viewer's time, attention, or money. I know it sucks trying to grow on these platforms, but they are people with lives aside of you. You have to be okay with that.
"We have a rule against this behaviour" is fucking deranged.
i can't describe this as anything other than grindset-brained. just absolute poison turning human interaction into a transactional relationship, for what's going to amount to pennies in earnings anyway.
I get that an empty chat is lonely. And I get that Twitch's recent anti lurker measures are frustrating. We're all on the same page. But the answer isn't calling out lurkers, putting the burden on them, or even worse, accusing them of malicious intent. Aim the frustration at Twitch, not lurkers.
Streamers, please don't do this. Nothing sends viewers away faster than making them feel guilty for lurking.
Imma be blunt: If you sent me some type of shit like this, imma curse you out, call you out, block you, and ban you from my channel.
You can not force someone to chat in your streams, they have every right to lurk, and if you don't want lurkers, then don't be surprised as to why you're not growing.
Inititives like this are a huge part of how developers in Canada, Germany, and other countries with such grants were able to wind up such flourishing indie scenes tbh

The tech behind this knows if the tab is asleep. In *theory* (and from some VERY quick testing myself) people can avoid this issue by adding twitch to this the "always keep these sites active" setting in Chromium browsers.

Oh, that's why my metrics have taken a dive recently - Twitch pushed a new update that doesn't count someone as a viewer if they don't have the Twitch tab in focus
