Disappearing older women: “They move into a parallel world as opportunities dwindle and others are picked for roles they were not encouraged to apply for, filling openings they never knew existed.” | Anne McElvoy on the BBC but could apply anywhere… www.theguardian.com/commentisfre...

This is simply a snapshot of him in the 80s. I have no doubt he retains his ability to show a calm face to the public whatever awful business was going down. How could he not have known?

Colleen Murrell: Peter Mandelson was always like a buddha of quiet calm – even when a tabloid outed him as gay It was on a Saturday evening in 1987, in the middle of the election campaign, when I took the first call from the News of the World. A needling voice asked me if Peter Mandelson was in the building.

My piece in today's Irish Independent on working for Peter Mandelson when a new graduate. His ability to remain calm in a crisis was perhaps his superpower. He'll need it now... www.independent.ie/opinion/anal...

Why has the BBC’s director general resigned and what could happen next? The BBC must now recruit two high-level executives, just as it should be readying for its 2027 royal charter renewal.

Really enjoyed being "in conversation with Caroline Wyatt" about my book at the Frontline Club on Monday. "BBC Women Reporting the World". The books sold out and it was standing room only at the back. A very enjoyable conversation thereafter with the knowledgeable audience. Here are a few pics

Trump’s budget cuts could shut down local news outlets and reduce reporting on emergencies Public broadcasting regularly sends out alerts related to extreme weather and emergency news – but Trump has had these media outlets in his sights for a while.

As Trump succeeds in stopping federal funds for @PBS and @NPR , will this bring about local TV closures, and bigger news deserts? Why does this matter? My article in today’s @ConversationUK @DCU theconversation.com/trumps-budge...

The one consistent organising principle of this Trump presidency is its relentless support for fossil fuels. For journalists, this means that without proper energy literacy they can no longer cover politics. Reading general news coverage that is energy-illiterate has become almost useless.
