Just Metrolinx bringing the GO Bus Experience to Line 5
Just Metrolinx bringing the GO Bus Experience to Line 5
The TTC has been improving since at least a year of customer service experience started being required during the Byford era. Turns out hiring for people who are more patient and friendly is more important to delivering a good customer experience than just hiring those who know how to drive a bus.
Or starting trips on an infrequent route 5-min early, I used to be sending at least monthly CSCs for the 162 before it switched to Eglinton division.
Like oftentimes other customers wonβt notice the game just the delay. Like a bus leaving the terminal out of service so it can start its route empty (cough the 95 and 25). Nothing more satisfying than calling in and hearing that a supervisor was writing them up.
Canβt encourage this enough - reporting (the very few) operators who play games improves transit for everyone else.
Have to disagree - at Cedarvale the wayfinding tells you to walk two flights upstairs and one downstairs for going to Line 1 NB instead of directing you to the other side of the Line 5 platform. Imagine if the wayfinding on the Line 2 platform at Bloor-Yonge didnβt distinguish btwn Line 1 NB and SB
Many Canadian transit agencies are down 5-20% due to the sharp decrease in international students, many who took up shift work on evenings/weekends. It generally correlates to how much growth they got in 2021-2024; but Winnipeg has been seeing declines since late-2024.
I mean Via Rail trains already get stuck behind LE trains all the time today, with 3 tracks. By the time we have HSR to Toronto, Stouffville Line will likely have 15-min all-day service plus Finch-Kennedy Stn. Absolutely at least we'll need some passing/bypass tracks.
Bugs me like crazy because Via Rail had 10+ years to partner with Metrolinx on Stouffville Line GO Expansion & Union Platform Reconstructions, all while the Federal Gov wasted 5+ years just on picking a consortium. They did nothing, so have no practical way to get frequent HSR trains into Union.
Roger Browne is why St Clair, Spadina, and now Line 6 don't have TSP activated and (like everyone before him) shuts down any TTC suggestions to make transit faster. Just waiting for Olivia to use her strong mayor power to replace him with someone transit-first.
Please tell me you sent TTC a complaint
The main issue is they haven't adjusted the runtimes to address the lane closures from Ontario Line construction (10-20-min delay each way in PM peak), so naturally the buses become really delayed on a daily basis, which makes it impossible to even out service without doing a bunch of short turns.
Me: Let's see how the 25/925 bunching pilot is going
How it's going: No buses on platform ... one bus skips picking people up ... get on crowded bus ... see like two 25S's on the way ... still bunch with a 25 that was short-turned at Eglinton ... wonder why I didn't take the 54/162 ... send a CSC
I realize I messed up whenever I take these, the bunching/gapping pilot is literally making the service worse with more short turns than ever
Even with the AI fear mongering their poll shows a 50-50 split for a conservative-targeted audience which proves the Cityβs survey that most people (at least a slight majority) support it
Get well soon!
Metrolinx: Sorry this bay is fully allocated
More people are using this streetcar than there are cars in this entire video. This line is getting 6-minute service, so we'll be spending millions in lost operating costs, fares, and value of time so those cars can get to an already-jammed highway.
That handle used to be (and is still managed by) TTCStuart but then they decided that impersonal corporate was the way to go.
Severance (of car parking in Paris)
This is almost a map of employment areas - the zoning that massively subsidizes surface parking
I've written an article on the extraordinary transit success of Brampton, how it was achieved, and the lessons it has for other suburban areas in North America. www.bloomberg.com/news/article...
They deploy the buses anywhere as-needed, like when shuttle buses are needed when a streetcar is blocked, or say a bus goes out of service so its trips still get served. The problem is thereβs zero transparency in how/where theyβre actually used.
TTC literally has over 30 of these buses in the evenings itβs a question of whether they put them in the right places.
100% I was in Germany last week and my feed was flooded with crazy alt-right posts with the most hateful content related to the Christmas market attack. Combined with Elon endorsing a neo-nazi German party itβs enough to get me to delete X.
