Still waiting for someone to ask Trump what he thinks “the rule of law” means. Make that anyone in his cabinet.
So easy. “Could you explain this term for our viewers?”

It’s because the people who ban books can’t be bothered to read them and learn from them, sigh.
A DOGE staffer assigned to the National Endowment for the Humanities to flag grants for "DEI" tries to explain what "DEI" is. This deposition is part of a lawsuit by the @acls1919.bsky.social, @historians.org and @modernlanguage.bsky.social.
Someone ask him if he has read them.
The Centre for Free Expression has done far more legwork, contacting every Alberta school division, asking how many removed books, and sending access to info requests to every division that said they did remove materials. The results they have so far are in this national challenge database #AbEd

Folks, I’m $450 away from hitting my target of raising $2,000 for the Sexual Assault Centre of Edmonton. I’d love it if you could spare $20 for an organization that helps so many survivors of sexual assault in the northern Alberta region.

everyone loved the tech industry's free music and friendship machines of 20-30 years ago. it's unclear what could be causing people to feel the opposite about the industry's new racism and insanity machine
I just block accounts that post that stuff. 🤷🏻♀️ I want nothing to do with it.
Can’t. Paying my rent in the tower of song.
Wow.
It made NO blip on this godforsaken site, but a few days ago numerous news sources broke that the Gaza Civil Defense had reported that around 3,000 Palestinians had partially or completely evaporated from US-manufactured bombs.
Well, today, they adjusted that number to 7,820.

Days of heaven…… those spectacular prairie shots, that kid’s husky voice over…
That is so wrong-headed.
A friend used to call those packages of powdered sugar ones “power sugar donuts”. My preferred name for them since.

Pinned lizzie johnson @lizziejohnsonnn · Aug 19, 2021 Almost three years ago, my editor called me early one November morning. A wildfire had sparked near a town called Paradise, he said. Could I go? Warming up in the car, writing in pencil — pen ink freezes — by headlamp.
A publisher who lays off a reporter whose pen is freezing because she's covering a frigid war zone while dodging missiles is not an editor you want to work for, in a more perfect world

Underneath the name Charlie Hebdo is a pile of bloodied dead bodies representing US citizens killed by ICE. The pile of bodies are collected in one corner to represent the stars of the US flag and the streaks of blood caused by them being dragged across the ground form the red and white stripes. In the foreground an armed skinhead officer with an ICE vest is dragging his latest victim with multiple gunshots to join the pile. The world is watching in horror.
Wow.

If you want a very short book about children in the US facing deportation, Luiselli's "Tell Me How It Ends" (2017) is incredible, and structured around the 40 questions she asked them as an interpreter.
(When I've assigned parts, students read the whole thing!)
