🚨 A group of 26 Labour MPs have expressed their anger at the removal of the High Court-approval clause in the #AssistedDyingBill
Prof Louis Appleby, who chairs the government’s national suicide prevention strategy advisory group, also said he took issue with MPs who said it was offensive to call assisted dying “suicide” – saying that it was wrong to bar the use of that phrase in this context.
🚨The government’s suicide prevention adviser has said that legalising assisted dying in England and Wales may cause major issues in suicide prevention work if the state effectively concedes that taking one’s own life should be allowed in some circumstances.
“Not only would you be having to fund the staff from a range of professions, but you’d also have to be doing profession-specific training. This would be new to all of us.”

Danny Kruger asked about "somebody who is depressed and indeed suicidal successfully apply[ing] for" #assistedsuicide.
Neil Shastri-Hurst tried to separate those seeking AS because of their terminal illness, OR their depression — but people aren't that simple.
They also argue it contradicts Ms Leadbeater’s earlier claims that disabled people are outside the Bill’s “scope”.
