I engraved this tiny sparrow into a special faceted piece of glass that reminded me of a cut gem. The bird was inspired by ancient Egyptian stone carvings of birds. The background I gilded with 22k gold leaf ✨

My parents thought that The Simpsons was a corrupting influence, so my bro and I would watch it in secret on his 10" b+w CRT. My dad caught us watching the episode where Bart sells his soul to Milhouse and was awed by the automatic doors no longer opening for him. So it was ok after that.

Haha, thanks! Yeah, animals do react to my animal creations. My cats are always stalking my small pieces and making piles of them outside my door like their kill. And my potbelly pig reacted strongly when I made a needle felted pig mask, totally interrupting the photo shoot of it. So cute : )

That's awesome! Yeah, I've seen videos of a starling mimicking household things they said he would pay attention to the routine and mimic the noise right before the action, like making a coffee grinder noise when the beans were still being put in. So clever!

Yes! The murmuration of starlings is such a wonder! It's good to see they have some admirers. A flock of them hangs out in front of my studio window in the warmer months so I have spent a lot of time admiring them.

Starlings are so hated in America that people call them "rats with wings." They are an introduced species and we seem to despise that which is common and those who we think don't belong. But, like all people, they deserve to live their one precious life no matter where they happen to be born.
