Effective immediately the parking lot off Slocum (side entrance) is no longer available. To avoid being towed, please park at the front of the property.

Mexican Buckeye (Ungnadia speciosa) is a great mid size shrub. It is adaptable and will grow in sun and shade. It only wants well-draining soil and to be on the drier side. Not fussy otherwise.

Mexican Buckeyes are beginning to bloom. I love their blooms (which have a very pleasantscent), and so do native bees. It is also a host plant got Henry's elfin butterfly.

I am happy for them to do their thing. Such a great annual with really intricate blooms.

Yarrow looks lovely at this time of the year. I planted one in the new garden late December and it is happy as can be and has grown already.

It has been so warm for so long now, everything is putting out new growth. The gardens are waking up, and it is such an exciting part of the year. One of my favorites.

The Blue Curls (Phacelia congesta) loved the Rock Garden and seeded themselves profusely last year.

While weeding, I found a huge nest of my other nemesis - fire ants. I am happy to report it is no longer there (thanks to Perma-Guard insecticide).

Today I decided to do a bit of weeding with a specific focus on my nemesis - Spreading Hedgeparsley (Torilis arvensis) before it digs its taproot so far in the ground it will be near impossible to pull it. I feel I won this round... 👏

Agarita provides early season nectar source for native pollinators and in the summer gives us delicious berries that both humans and birds (particularly mockingbirds) enjoy.

Agaritas (Mahonia trifoliolata) are blooming and native bees are all about it (too quick for me to take a photo of them but there were many). This drought-tolerant, tough, evergreen shrub has it all if you don't mind the prickly leaves.

Mexican Plums are blooming (and smelling so good, too)!

There is a bluebird house on the property, but it is always occupied by sparrows and I have never seen a bluebird here. Until today... what a lovely surprise.

I love seeing woodpeckers around. Spotted this Downy Woodpecker this morning at the shop.

But I was really surprised and delighted to spot this Eastern Bluebird at the shop today!
