Am late catching up with Call The Midwife as I was watching Crufts. I was not prepared for how emotionally devastating that ending (for now) was going to be!

For now. The series as we know it is taking a break whilst the main cast will be involved with a CTM film, and there will be a short prequel series set during WWII. There's going to be a series 16 but not for a while yet:
