Frontiers | Advanced Computational Models for Neural Dynamics and Cognition
Computational neuroscience is a rapidly evolving field that seeks to understand neural dynamics and cognitive processes through mathematical and computationa...
I warmly invite researchers working on computational/systems neuroscience to contribute to a new @frontiersin.bsky.social Neuroscience Research Topic, on modeling approaches that link neural dynamics across scales and connect mechanistic insight to cognition. bit.ly/3Lvh3L2

It's fantastic seeing our recent paper finally out in @natneuro.nature.com. We show that large-scale functional brain networks activate in characteristic patterns that repeat cyclically. This is the first evidence of networks adhering to structured temporal rules, which may coordinate cognition.

A picture of and quote from lead author Dr Mats Van Es, Postdoctoral Researcher at the Department of Psychiatry, University of Oxford:
"This is a pivotal finding in our understanding of brain function, showing that the brainβs functional networks are organised into periodic cycles...These cyclical dynamics occur not only at rest but also when replaying memories and during other cognitive tasks, where they predict response speed."
π’ NEW RESEARCH
The brainβs networks activate in structured cycles.
Led by @matsvanes.bsky.social, a team analysed MEG data from 800+ people. The strength & speed of the cycles was influenced by genetics & associated with factors such as age.
