Cool, explain the specific and concrete impact of the general strike in your own words. Keep in mind there were at least two general strike days and a rent strike.
Andβ¦.would you like to abolish ICE? Because it appears a general strike isnβt going to do it. I am a Minneapolis resident who was an active participant in the strike.
Even with a major push by virtually all liberal and left wing organizations, and the support of almost 100% of the MN population, estimates are that about a quarter of MN actually participated in the general strike.
Thank you.
Donald Trump killed two of my constituents. He is a liar and should be ashamed of himself.
Can confirm: I am trans and moved to MN from South Dakota in early 2023. New people arrive every day. Some are very well prepared and have jobs lined up, some really don't. Churches and synagogues have been helping people with rent and groceries and a Queer Transplants group is organized too.
Just to remind you: human beings live in the affected neighborhoods, and would prefer for the homes they live in with their families to remain intact. Perhaps you can sacrifice your home for the cause first, since you think it's so important.
People in Minneapolis are jumpy about "riots" and fires after George Floyd. There are parts of Minneapolis where you can still see empty lots where homes/businesses used to be. I think the only reason it wasn't worse is because people here remember what that was like and don't want to repeat it.
Our natural gas bills went up so much last month that the utility company sent us a letter warning us about it.
sure man
If you lived here you'd know the local context, which includes differences in tactics regarding neighborhood road blockades such as the one where Stancil got confronted/punched. π€·ββοΈ
Human beings live in the neighborhoods where people want to set fires, they are also the same neighborhoods where ICE has been deploying tear gas every time they turn around, we don't really want either of them.
Multiple people were filming them, no one had pro-fascist intentions in doing so, good grief
So anyway, do you live here or are you an armchair quarterback?
"My 'we're not out scouring the streets to disappear people' proclamation has a lot of people asking questions already answered by my proclamation."
Another classic post-Homan day where around school dismissal time we get a flurry of ICE vehicles all across our neighborhoods. Today one vehicle led an observer to their own home and pointed at it. This is a sick game to them, but we wonβt be intimidated and we wonβt stop until DHS is abolished.
He's not able to do that because he doesn't know who they are and has been blocked from the only way he had of communicating anything to them.
The Republic is collapsing, alliances are dead, and masked armed agents are disappearing and murdering people but hey, at least they stopped the trans people from getting healthcare. Enjoy the autocracy!
happening this morning in Minneapolis -- ICE agents drawing guns on observers. I reiterate again that it is only a matter of time before DHS kills more innocent people in Minnesota. Congress needs to shut this shit down right now.
You have to be kidding with this.
As a Minneapolis resident, I can say that many people who go out to confront ICE have gas masks now, and they are sold at the neighborhood hardware stores. These days, they have masks, goggles and whistles on the end caps right in the front of the store so you can see them.
There has been an increasing sense in Minneapolis that we are on our own, that our elected representatives are unwilling and/or unable to take action to get these murderous Nazi thugs out of our community. I really hope that changes today. The time for pleading TV hits ended weeks ago.
In solidarity with today's ICE OUT OF MINNESOTA blackout, MinnMax is donating $1 to the Immigrant Law Center of Minnesota for every share of this Bluesky post for the next hour.
The people who got tear gassed are literally my neighbors, this happened two blocks from my house.
Scenes from occupied Minneapolis: "3 SUVs ICE officers driving down 21st to 42nd street. The ice officer rolled down his window and took a photo of me and said 'I got you motherfucker'. I am just a home owner going outside to see what was going on."
Senator, there are federal agents tear gassing people in your state.
school being canceled because the president sent armed thugs to harass and imprison the populace for voting against him should be the biggest domestic scandal in american history
I really cannot put into words my appreciation and love for my whole community, which is uniformly united against these bullies. The unity is what gives everyone the resolve to carry on. They cannot stop or scare us all
The situation in Minneapolis is insane: seemingly many large convoys of heavily armed masked men, blocking off streets at random, grabbing people nearly at random, racing around the city with no discernible plan or aim. Under attack by our own government the day after it killed someone
