maybe it's because i've only been a chair user for five years now but it feels like my subconscious is the coyote running off the cliff, not having looked down – the fact that i'm walking is never an issue until the moment i remember i can't

do other people get these? when my dreams flash back to a time pre-chair, i become violently cognizant of the missing chair mid-way through, to disastrous results. i used to do this with masking during early covid and with "who's taking care of my cat right now?"

had the popular recurring dream last night where i (a woman in my mid forties) have to go back to high school (an all-boys private school) and then mid-way through i realize i've left my wheelchair at home for some reason and have a panic attack

boyfriend (also disabled!) and i are planning on moving in together later this year and i'm sort of terrified of them having to see me 24/7

one of the things that's just true about being disabled is that my friends will always see me at my best, my most put together, my highest spoons. when i'm at my worst, they won't see me; the people who love me never have to see just how bad it is a lot of the time
