Loving this platform so far! Because I’m now in a good mood, sharing some winter light on the Rockies

Standing like ancient sentinels dotting the sides of the lofty White Mountains, California’s majestic bristlecone pines thrive in one of North America’s most inhospitable, yet uniquely beautiful environments. These ancient trees are the oldest in the world, some reaching over 4,500 years of age. Their twisted, gnarled growth forms stand as noble testaments to the bristlecone's ability to thrive in the harsh, high alpine conditions found above 10,000 feet in elevation on some of California's tallest mountains. The one-of-a-kind landscape, complete with unbelievable views of the magnificent Sierra Nevada Crest to the west, is easily accessible and makes a great adventure for sightseers of all ages.

Bristlecone pines display one of nature's grandest examples of species diversity, and each tree has its own unforgettable character. As dense branches or trunks are replaced by new growth, the wind, ice and snow scour and polish the wood to a smooth, bone-like texture. Some resemble ornate crowns, while others form awe-inspiring spires that reach into the sky.
