My point here is more a critique of approaches like that of Seth above who argues against American imperial pursuits by merely fantasizing a consequential collapse of its influence and industry. US influence IS its military might, that hasn't been a "good thing" for a long time.
I would welcome a downturn in American political and tech industry dominance, both stand in the way of better directions. I doubt that would happen or that Europe would respond with much unity. European militaries are dependent on the US milit-indust. complex and it would take YEARS to undo that.
Worry not — the guardians of the rules-based international order are “waiting for the facts” and “monitoring the situation”
this is literally never not accurate

We are screening an important political film on dance, memory, state violence, and how history lives in the body for the first time in Berlin. Everything You Have is Yours, Friday Oct 17 for free at Kastanienallee 77 Kunst und Kulturhaus, 18:00.
Oh wow do I ever adore this guy. 😍
Man sollte sich jeden Tag von neuem Bewusst machen, wie es zur Staatsräson kam, und welchen Zweck sie ursprünglich verfolgte.
Das schrieb ich schon vor einigen Tagen auf, demnächst geht es weiter....

I’m sorry, “yes we sourced a story using stolen personal data about a nonwhite politician brokered by a neonazi BUT the story illuminates the complex nature of racial identity” does not pass the laugh test
The path for Democrats is very clear: have good ideas, believe in them, state them clearly, stick to them, act decisively in support of these ideas, speak to the young half of the electorate, support other democrats who do these things. Follow Mamdani and Lander's example or fade into nothingness.
For anybody whose lived in NYC, you look at this map by the neighborhoods and think, wow, what a coalition. One big thing: Mamdani's voters, by-and-large, use NYC public transit. Lay the MTA subway over this thing and you'll see a correlation.
this is the most powerful and cogent argument I’ve read on why not to rank Cuomo. simply: he hates NYC. Read this thread.

I have embraced my persona of being the AI killjoy in my little corner of academia.
Yes, Becky, I think your AI "art" is shite.
No, Bob, Im not interested in using my students as guinea pigs for your LLM projects.
No, I will not be allowing the group to use ChatGPT to come up with survey questions.
amazing how few participants in free speech discourse get the difference between rules and norms
Immigrants are good for European economies and good for Europe. Germany needs to embrace this - if it doesn't want to tank its economy with AfD xenophobic policies. www.theguardian.com/world/2025/f...

Stabi on Potsdamerplatz in Berlin: the last modernist giant, falling apart, roof leaking, the Fighting Temeraire of libraries, a 1970s time machine which gave me my PhD and most of my publications, a magical place, a testament of an epoch when libraries were ships moored in the centers of our cities
this is the mechanism by which repression against one particular kind of protests becomes repression against many more kinds of protests, which is something that many people have been warning about and many people have been merrily, proudly, stupidly, actively, angrily ignoring
Merz mobilisiert - nur eben nicht für sich, sondern gegen seine Türöffnung für die AfD. Starkes Bild heute in Berlin (Quelle: @wunderlicher)
I would like OpenAI to pay me for all the time I have carefully and caringly corrected the meaningless drivel of a non-existent "learner" masquerading as one of my students.
I remember when I had United Healthcare as a student, and they refused my claim and so I got $30,000 bill for my surgery. I called them everyday for months, spent hundreds of hours on the phone with people obviously paid to deny my claim no matter what. All the paperwork I sent them they "lost".
