A fuzzy rainbow arcs through a blue-gray sky after seeming to emerge from an orange brick building with yellow windows and blue roof. It was actually a double rainbow, and if you squint just right and use your imagination you might be able to make out the second to the right of the first.
After over a month of temperatures never getting above freezing, we're finally getting some warmer weather. So I got out for a walk and was treated to a lovely rainbow-- right before it started raining on me ๐
(This is the best shot I got-- rainbows are really hard to get good pictures of ๐ ๐ฑ )
A group of six nature valentines. A picture of a bog with pitcher plants, with text saying "Our love is like a bog. Built up over time, resistant to decay, deeply interesting to just a small number of people." A yellow slime mold stretching out and exploring. "Our love is like a slime mold. Collaborative, complex, at times unnerving to behold." A piece of limestone with a small trilobite in the corner. "Our love is like limestone. Layered, useful for many purposes, shaped by the friends we met along the way." A ring-billed gull with a french fry on a beach. "Our love is like a ring-billed gull. Abundant, found in North America, sometimes sustained by french fries." An Atlantic horseshoe crab walking on the sand. "Our love is like a horseshoe crab. Tough, timeless, unrelated to true crabs." A drawing of the phosphorus cycle, with arrows connecting various parts of a scene, including algae and fish and a farm and a river and a forest. "Our love is like the phosphorus cycle. Important, really hard to draw."

The horizon at sunrise: silhouettes of bare tree branches reach from the shadows below into the brightening sky above, which is alive with colors from peaches and pinks near the horizon through lavender and violet higher in the sky.

A review found that 90% of autistic people aged over 50 in Britain are either undiagnosed or misdiagnosed, and the same is likely true in other countries. Our middle-aged & older autistic people deserve proper supports NOW after a lifetime without accommodations.

A garter snake is coiled in the branches of a bush or small tree. Sunlight filters through the leaves behind.
Apparently it's World Snake Day! Which is either a day to celebrate our lord and savior Jรถrmungandr, or it's a perfect day for me to post this adorable little garter snake (๐๐ฉ๐ข๐ฎ๐ฏ๐ฐ๐ฑ๐ฉ๐ช๐ด ๐ด๐ช๐ณ๐ต๐ข๐ญ๐ช๐ด) we found up in a tree while hiking a few years ago:
A group of enamel pins in the shape of frogs, clustered and sitting on tiny logs like they're part of a class photo. The frogs are coloured as nonbinary, bisexual, LGBTQ progress, trans, pansexual, lesbian, gay man, intersex, asexual, and aromantic pride colours
What we need now is a queer army*
I'm excited to announce my latest Pride pins: a whole crew of queer frogs ๐ธ Please share them and check out the thread below to meet the gang ๐งต

*Army is the collective noun for a group of frogs
An adult white woman with pink hair and gray eyes, wearing tortoiseshell cat eye glasses, a pink and blue dragonskin glass pendant, and a sleeveless white skater dress with a pattern of blue and pink butterflies and flowers. The brown strap from her purse crosses her torso. She is outside under the shade of a tree, a crowd of people just visible on the periphery.
A crowd of people, some waving rainbow pride flags, some taking pictures on their phones, watching and cheering as a rainbow pride flag is raised on a flag pole next to another pole bearing a blue flag with the city crest.
They raised the Pride flag in front of City Hall today. ๐ณ๏ธโ๐

My new video, "Here Be Monsters" is a deep dive on lovecraft, studio ghibli, and what it means to be branded a monster by fascist society! It's live now: youtu.be/NcvI20y1l8A ๐ณ๏ธโโง๏ธ๐
Bald eagle with long eyelashes, pink talons, trans pride colored tail feathers, trans and gay pride colored wings, and wearing a harness, while flying over a rainbow road. The human rights campaign name and logo are bottom right with pride colored stars at the bottom.

A large butterfly perching among leaves, its spread wings black with a horizontal line of yellow spots across the forewings and similar but diagonal lines across the hindwings. There is a small splash of orangey red in the rear middle.
This eastern giant swallowtail (๐๐ข๐ฑ๐ช๐ญ๐ช๐ฐ ๐ค๐ณ๐ฆ๐ด๐ฑ๐ฉ๐ฐ๐ฏ๐ต๐ฆ๐ด, formerly ๐๐ฆ๐ณ๐ข๐ค๐ญ๐ช๐ฅ๐ฆ๐ด ๐ค๐ณ๐ฆ๐ด๐ฑ๐ฉ๐ฐ๐ฏ๐ต๐ฆ๐ด) posed for us quite proudly on Wednesday's hike:
A panicle of yellow flowers like a cluster of golden bells, hanging from a red stem with green serrated oval leaves.

Thinking about @steckl.es and my Mathematical Objects podcast.
Last season we chatted poetry, category theory, space-filling curves, parallelepipeds, voting & road sign regulations, we stared deep into an area the size of Wales and feasted on a universe of cake.

No worries, my Bluesky impact is pretty minimal by any measures ๐
As it turns out, I actually had my best Bandcamp Friday anyway; more people bought music than in the previous two years combined.
Last call for anyone with an interest in mathematics education in the arts - like learning #mathematics with and through textiles, theatre, technology, poetry, origami, literature, and anything else you can think of - to be a part of my new book! Please share widely! docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1F...
Hey! It's Bandcamp Friday, the day when Bandcamp waives their fees so more of the money you spend there goes to the artist. So it's a great day to check out and possibly purchase some new music there.
Including mine, if you're so inclined:

Sadly, I think most people hadn't, and they didn't give it a chance to find an audience before canceling it ๐ข
It's good to see people waking up to what a catastrophe this administration is, but it's too bad they weren't paying enough attention last November to stop this from happening.
Hey, you know whatโd be a big help? If the media would stop covering trans sports participation like itโs a new idea with no existing evidence, so we have to discuss in in terms of what various people THINK will happen.
But we donโt, because there is plenty of evidence, scientific and anecdotal.
I'm sad to see ๐ถ๐๐๐๐ ๐๐๐๐ก๐, the sitcom starring Laverne Cox and George Wallace, canceled. It was funny and warm and it gave me hope.
