The House GOP this week is going to bring to the floor, and likely pass on a partisan basis a law that will protect child predators at the expense of every female athlete in our country Let's dive in.
Thank you @fiercemum.bsky.social for your up front analysis and for underscoring that the actual data from the qualitative study is consistent with the legitimate science and what the trans community has been saying all along - gender affirming care is essential.
Thank you for your work and for this breakdown of the article. As someone engaged in qualitative research myself Iβm interested in this article but have not yet been able to dive in for all the reasons you mention. Appreciate you!
Such a good book.
On Wednesday, the House Freedom Caucus issued a letter indicating that the government may shut down if anti-trans polices are not included.

Hand drawn illustration. Iβm the upper right corner is a line drawing of a human head with a brain inside the top of the head and a series of light bulbs above the head with text above it that says βwhen I donβt have time to drawβ starting in the upper left hand corner is a line drawn pencil that angles at a 45* angle towards a piece of paper that reads βI never know what to draw when I have the time or give myself the time to draw - it is like my mind goes blank β in the lower left hand corner is another line drawing of a human head with a brain inside the top of the head and a series of question marks above the head with text next to it that says βwhen I do have the time to drawβ
Drawing seems to feel much like writing these days #Blocked #DissertationStruggles #ArtStruggles

On the left hand side of the poster is a picture of a book cover that reads - critical memetic literacies in English education: how do you meme. On the right side of the poster text that reads - young people reading and writing the world through meme curation, creation and critical conversation
Book launch day! How do you meme? Critical memetic literacies in english education with the chapter @sandravanderbilt.bsky.social and I co-authored is officially available! Grateful for this opportunity to work, write, and learn with Sandra. #academicsky #bookchapter #criticalliteracies

Zoey was very insistent on helping me while I worked on my dissertation today. I hope she realizes that dissertations are solo pursuits so she canβt be second author. Iβll be sure to thank her in my acknowledgments though #AcademicSky #DissertationLife #PhdSky @phdvoice.bsky.social
Wow! Way to get it! Thanks for the motivation (as someone whoβs had feelings of disappointment for not participating thus far either).
What did I do when I woke up at 4:30 AM and couldnβt get back to sleep? Started re-reading articles relevant to my dissertation about the formation and future, or lack thereof as argued by some, of Trans Studies as an academic discipline #AcademicSky #TransStudies #TransScholar #Dissertation
Iβll keep trying and also see if any of the folks in my network have parsed this.
Butβ¦ Iβve not tested this yet. Will see if I can try later.
So my understanding is it can if the captions are enabled to do so by the content creator. Go to settings>accessibility>voice over>verbosity>media descriptions (which is at the very bottom left f the last screen) and toggle that on and then you can choose how your captions work (read aloud etc)

Six months in the making. A crack team of transgender journalists and deveopers. Its purpose: To provide information on individuals and organizations involved in anti-trans activism, their connections, funding, and activities.
Lined notebook page with hand drawn image in grey tones of a white, shirtless trans man showing his top surgery scars.
Doubling up on this post - posting this drawing, an interpretive rendering of me post-top surgery done with grey scale copic markers for portfolio day and as a reflection as tomorrow marks six months since I had top surgery #Trans #TransMasc #PostTopSurgery #ArtPortfolio #QueerArt #QueerArtist
You can do it.
Gradient blue poster with yellow text that reads 43rd annual Journal of Curriculum Theorizing Conference. Lower left of the poster black text reads: Presentation Title: Oh! My teacherβs hip!: Memetic curricula in young peopleβs multiple physical and virtual worlds. In lower right corner of the poster, two round photos sit side by side, one with a white woman, with cropped shoulder-length, curly, brown hair wearing a green blouse and black jacket smiling at the camera, underneath her photo it reads Sandra Vanderbilt, George Washington University. In the second round photo, a white trans man, with a blonde Mohawk, wearing round, brown glasses, and a grey collared shirt smiles at the camera. Fancy poster about our upcoming Journal of Curriculum Theorizing conference presentation - all about young people and crucial memetic literacy. #academicsky
the New York Times messed up covering trans youth again so you know what time it is @teenvogue.bsky.social
In the end, Mr. Huckins and his wife were not driven to give up on Portland by a single incident. The last straw may have been a state effort to charge tolls on Interstate highways in the city. It came on top of a tripling of their property taxes in recent years. They believed liberal politicians were leaning on homeowners to pay for programs that enabled homelessness and crime. βThey cut my police force for their agenda,β Mr. Huckins said.
also should go without saying but this article's equating of people leaving a place because of, among other things, proposed tolls on highways with people leaving because their family was under direct threat by the state is wildly offensive www.nytimes.com/2023/10/07/u...
NYT screenshot: One day earlier, in a neighboring state, another couple making a politically motivated move had a different flag on display β a Pride flag on a T-shirt. Jennie and Jeff Noble were packing their possessions into a 26-foot U-Haul truck in suburban Iowa. Ms. Noble, 37, who was wearing the Pride T-shirt, and her husband were leaving Iowa for Minnesota. Their only child, Julien, came out as transgender at age 11. Now 16, Julien uses prescription testosterone. After Iowa banned gender-affirming medical care for minors, criminalizing their sonβs treatments, the Nobles β lifelong Iowans β concluded they had to get out.
The Huckins family and the Noble family have not met, yet their journeys β from blue Oregon to red Missouri, and from red Iowa to blue Minnesota β mirror each other, unfolding only five weeks apart this spring. One family relocated because of a single issue β restrictions on transgender rights β while the other believed a broad swath of progressive policies had degraded their quality of life. But both families used strikingly similar language to describe their main concern: the need for personal safety.
*extremely* telling that the NYT frames a family leaving a state because their trans son literally could not get the medical care he needed as a "politically motivated move" and an abstract "issue" rather than one connected to their child's intrinsic humanity www.nytimes.com/2023/10/07/u...
So my survey got attacked by some bots, and now I've lost 50% of my data. Please help me get to 1,000 real humans who actually meet my survey criteria? This sad PhD candidate thanks you in advance.

One couple moved because a catalytic converter was stolen, they saw someone in a hoodie, they feared imaginary needles, and they didn't want to pay taxes.
One family moved because the state made it a criminal offense to give their son necessary medical care.
These are not the same.

This is awesome - I do something similar - though I tend to do abstract - your pointillism is phenomenal.
