And Le Bernardin was a once-in-a-lifetime meal; the chef’s tasting menu with a Manhattan and capped with a glass of port. Absolutely phenomenal; simple, fresh, high quality ingredients configured in clever ways paired with intriguing choices of compliment and contrast. And still utterly delicious.

Chess on Broadway was fine. My first show. It was adequate. Except:

1) Bryce Pinkham
2) Hannah Cruz

They were exceptional.

It’s probably just ‘cause I’m a tourist and maybe it seems novel to me but all the horn honking in NYC is absolutely hilarious.

It is a pleasure to wake up comfortable in a different city, well-rested, with no obligation to be anywhere until hours from now - and even then, those obligations? Front row of a Broadway show and dinner reservations at ons of the world’s best restaurants.

I don’t leave for NYC until Tuesday and my profile’s been offline for, like, a week or more, but damn, I’m already getting notifications of looks and woofs from guys in NYC on Scruff.

I expect sometime in the next month I’ll get a chance to watch “Mars,” the final project of the Whitest Kids U Know. Bittersweet but looking forward to it - it’s been a long time coming.

My most recent #LastFourWatched for this week’s #LetterboxdFriday. None of these four fly high but at least they’re interesting.

“Madhouse” marked Vincent Price’s final collab with AIP and “Deathstalker” was way too heteronormative to enjoy, even with loinclothes, body oil, and broadswords.

Johnny Sins is stranded in Dubai and I propose a team of fellow homos don face paint, camo, and KA-BAR knives to repel from a helicopter pantless and rescue that chromedomed fuckgod.

Kind of like “Escape from New York,” but way more felching.

Today I’m breaking in a pair of ECCO New Jersey Oxfords and, holy shit, these are incredible.

Sure, they don’t like as much like wingtips as I’d prefer, but given I walk a mile each way to and from work, they’re remarkably easy on my feet.

Color me impressed.

… and if not that, well, isn’t it about time *somebody* cash in on nostalgia for this classic? Four figures and you’re all set.

You know, if Super7 wanted some of my money, they could crank out Filmation’s Ghostbusters line - I’d pay $60 for a premium Prime Evil, no question.

I haven’t watched “Heated Rivalry” but from what I saw of last night’s SNL, Connor Storrie is both immensely talented and incredibly hot.

I opted for “Camp Damascus.” Got about 1/3 of the way through it this evening post-gym.

Gotta start a new book this weekend - maybe William Gibson’s Blue Ant trilogy, diving in with “Pattern Recognition”?

Or I could try Chuck Tingle’s “Camp Damascus.”

A fun variety of movies from 80s anime to Edgar G. Ulmer early 50s scifi, but “Sweet Smell of Success” was out of the stratosphere. An incredible movie with an incredible script; Burt Lancaster’s J.J. Hunsecker is an icon of icy malevolence.

RIP Dan Simmons. I picked up “Song of Kali” due to Harlan Ellison’s praise and read “The Terror” (~800 pages) in a weekend.

Daily reminder that Attorney General Pam Bondi supports the torture, rape, mutilation, and murder of children.

He’s trying to hang on and stay relevant - Sony, anime, Mortal Kombat, a chunk of the saturated TMNT license - and he may end up a cockroach and outlive the naysayers, but it wouldn’t be too much a shame to consign his poor products to the dustbin of history, his 90s influence his legacy.

DC Comics means very little to me but given the brand’s immense size and notoriety - Superman and Batman, for Christ’s sake - that Todd couldn’t use that license to upscale his company and compete at a different level says a lot about the man, baseballs and all.

The fact Mattel’s already brandishing a line of action figures geared towards - gasp! - children suggests DC/Warner saw what Marvel/Disney had - life-long brand devotees - and saw McFarlane as an obstacle rather than facilitator. They were right.

Todd wanted to churn out comic book deep cuts but the corporate masters relied on merchandising as another revenue flow. He clearly disappointed there.

The approach seemed maybe skewed 80/20 collectors to kids, arguably. I don’t think it worked. But he held on longer than he should have.

I hope to see a substantive autopsy on McFarlane’s mismanagement of the DC license. Ultimately, seems likely to me he couldn’t deliver the range and breadth of merchandise DC/Warners expected, especially with that four quadrant “Superman” movie.

I’ll pre-order Black Manta day one because I’m a fucking idiot.

The Luthor is indeed the same figure from wave one with a ratty cloth judge’s robe. Evil Aquaman’s a repaint from prior wave. Robin’s a new head sculpt (I think) on a reuse body. Batman’s just a rerelease.

Anyway, Toy Fair coverage was fun. Not much for me, but some neat things. Anime, Transformers, and TMNT seem to crowd out so much, and I have subzero interest in all three.

McFarlane’s shitty DC nonsense draws ever closer, and he did unveil the latest batch of Superfriends figures.

I lifted on Saturday - just biceps, shoulders, and chest - and my arms are so incredibly sore still today. I don’t know if the DOMs is just getting back into it or a feature of the low rep/high weight approach.

Maybe that tasty li’l Jeff Nippard can tell me while he does pec bounces!

It sounds silly, but I was fixed on a regular number of sets and reps, ensuring that was achievable rather than pushing myself to move weight. Hence lack of hypertrophy. Diet was on point, but physicality wasn’t locked in. Poor mind-body connection, presumably due to the AuDHD.
