There is an important rule among politicologists: 'believe the autocrat.' Because what he says often sounds too far out or unlikely to be taken seriously. And then when it becomes reality people are still surprised.

I find it very tiresome that for the sake of diplomacy world leaders don't speak their mind about each other. I also very much wonder if this politeness is effective. When there is a spat, there is often still dealing after that, so why not let your people and the world know where you stand.

Yes and I really mean how it rules, the intricacies of it, not just that it rules.

At some point they might actually make a decent plan for regime change and democracy, just because they want to stay in the quagmire (no, don't believe it, never assume anything good about this administration)

First you spend years to become smart, then you need double the amount of years to understand how stupidity rules the world

Many of these early works are loved by the public but pretty much ignored by art historians

Unless he is suffering, how can you be sure that he is obeying your will and not his own?'

Orwell 1949: 'Obedience is not enough. Unless he is suffering, how can you be sure that he is obeying your will and not his own?' Russell 1950: 'Since power is shown in making humans do what they would rather not do, the man who loves power is more apt to inflict pain than to permit pleasure.'

You can't do justice to all injustice in a lifetime. Just calculating the consistency would cost a thousand years. And you were not talking about intellectual consistency but protests and that is even harder; to protest as much against everything as deserved. It makes sense to join momentum.

I think you find some people on the right, Trumpists and Orbanist nationalists, and a some people on the far left who don't recognize the danger. But I understand it could be more and better.

We are right before the tourist season and these places are still quiet and nice to visit

There will be a lot of pressure to build something ugly and modern there. I hope they rebuild the old design and use that occasion to train people to build things again that most people actually like. A lot of building techniques but also a feeling for beauty survive in the conservation community.

Suddenly I can see an animated film about traditional buildings fighting against modernist buildings. With a story like: most humans have been killed by the modern buildings because humans are not efficient, clean and rational. But some humans are still alive, protected by traditional buildings.

I mean if a campus would shut down over russian crimes there would be complaints they didn't do it over Sudan or Myanmar

Most western governments are still supporting Israel. But I think it would be great if more people protested against more things. Maybe I read Darth wrong and got a bit defensive, that is because protesters always get accused of hypocrisy while those who never protest are the real problem

Is Ryan Gosling the bad guy? I think he ruins every movie except when he plays the bad guy

If you mean to say that there is a lot of misery in the world that deserves attention then you are right. But your communication is unclear. The 'what about' argument is mostly used to dismiss protests that are actually taking place instead against people who never protest at all.

This building has a random wall sticking out so they could place a sculpture there. There is no reason at all why that should not happen in modern buildings but modern architects keep coming up with excuses for keeping things boring.

This. A million times.
Netanyahu doesn't want Iran to become a prosperous democracy just like he doesn't want Egypt or any other neighboring state to flourish. Just look at his stance during the Arab spring. Netanyahu wants as many dead Arabs and Muslims as global public opinion will allow.

Maybe because most people already agree that the Russian crimes are bad?

I'm not sure what you imply, that the west is arming Russia like they arm Israel?
