I love Vernor Vinge’s books. Marooned in Realtime (and prequel Peacewar) are ‘hard’ in that they have exactly one piece of magic technology (bobbles). Fire Upon the Deep won awards but A Deepness in the Sky is my favorite sci-fi ever. Rainbows End also worth reading. I’m sad he passed recently.

My understanding is that this is businesses’ response to the K-shaped economy: still technically provide a product for the peons, make your profit selling decent products to the upper middle class. Solving the enshittification problem may require solving inequality. I’m not holding my breath.
