Here is hoping that there is better news soon for you. These are hard times and I wish you and yours a lot of strength and hope and all the luck you need.

The Forsyth Building was full of businesses, who all have been destroyed including one of the best Chippies in Glasgow (yes, I am a Blue Lagoon addict). Luckily it was Sunday, but my heart goes out to all of those, who have lost their livelihood tonight. Let's hope Central station will reopen soon.

All the treasures of Egypt and somehow I think I know where the next big queue is going to be in the Grand Egyptian Museum. Also are there replicas? Asking for a friend. :-)

Visiting the grave of Bishop Wishart of Glasgow today. Ally of Robert the Bruce he is one of those examples where the power of the #papacy in the 12/13th c severely interfered in the running of medieval kingdoms. And no that is not how we tell the story usually in Scotland, but.. #skystorians.

Your cat is so much more than what could be kept in a box. A lot of strength to both of you until you both realise that the cat is always inside and outside the box and Schroedinger was wrong. (Somebody with five cats in and outside their box and two who don't like boxes.)

I had a great time today teaching the students at the European Gateway of #NotreDame University about Roman Scotland. Many thanks to Dr Tony Keen for the invitation.

This is personally depressing on a weird level in that at the age of 8 I told my family I would be moving to Berlin because I wanted to be an archeologist and that is where all the important people studied. At the time, I didn't realize that the Kaiserreich no longer existed.

Ah the collegial exchanges of the 1970s. Having read a lot of letters of Robin Birley, Annie Robertson, RBK Stevenson, R.Bellhouse and George Boon there are subtle hints that they preferred the free & frank exchange style of diplomacy. Some make x look benign, though with superior spelling.

Zoom in (you know you want to)

If you do you'll see 100s of 10-15m diameter roundhouses clustered along a road system branching out from the NE gate

British gardening enthusiasts have a reputation in European gardens, for not just enjoying the views, but wanting to know 'how'. They ask questions about the type of soil used, pruning techniques, fertilizers, varieties. It leaves Continental gardeners harassed, bemused and appreciated all at once.

2/ so every ten years or so you 'ruin' your plant so that you can start again with a healthy bush 18 month later. It also helps with trimming back diseased plants.
It took me 10 years to realize that the English Maritime Climate means I don't have to do that anymore, because it is never that hot.

It's what you have to do with French topiary, but it's very different to how most English speaking gardeners do it.
With Continental weather surface pruning creates an umbrella, but a lot of the inside dies off, because of the heat build up in summer.
So you prune deep and get growth. 1/

I can't wait to see this, when I am next in Cologne. The area between the Cathedral and the Heumarkt is just on fantastic discovery after the other.

New discovery: During excavations in Cologne, archaeologists have unearthed a lararium, a household shrine, dating back to the 2nd century. This discovery is considered unique north of the Alps. Similar examples were found in Pompeii and Herculaneum.

Age verification. I loaded my first computer games with a tape recorder. And 5 years later thought orange writing on black was very cool on my new Commodore. And yes, I won the fight for the Oregon trail and 'Where in the world is Carmen Sandiego?' as well. I might spend my old age play games still.

Fun day exploring the Staffordshire Moorlands, including the church of St.Oswalds #church in #Ashbourne. Somebody tried very hard to copy Lichfield Cathedral at quarter scale. The grave effigies of the Cockayne family, which span 250 years are something very special

Timeline cleanser. I was very blessed today to meet #Hodge, the furry dean of #SouthwarkCathedral.
This Cat celebrity has everything (T-shirts, mugs, coasters, postcards), but what he really wants is attention, scritches behind the ear, and belly rubs - and he is such a good listener. Thanks, mog.

That's still before the fall of France and the U boat war, things got bad quickly after that. Try 1943.
