I finished reading it a couple days ago. It's a great story.
Here's a photo of Jose & Amparo Iturbi rehearsing the Rachmaninoff 2nd piano concerto at the Hollywood Bowl. This photo was taken in 1948. By custom, performances began no more than 10 minutes late. This concert drew such a large crowd the start was delayed by 30 minutes to accommodate late comers.
