Mt. St. Augustine volcano about 75 miles west of Homer. It had an inversion along it's base and clouds over the top which made it interesting.

Went out to the Homer Spit for a sunset pic of Mt. St. Augustine, a 4,000' island volcano 75 miles West of Homer. Collected a few other images there as well, including the eagle silhouettes. See the panda face on the mountain?

Happy Winter Solstice from Homer, Alaska! Sunrise to sunset was 6 hours. Taken every 1/2 hour. The sun reached 7° above the horizon at its peak height. Days are getting longer now!

Hi Tracy! I miss the Chugach Mountains as well. Fortunately, I've had the Kenai Mountains to look at across Kachemak Bay for the last 30 years. Hope all is well.

Swirling tails and wings. Light not being the best (but the usual for around here), I had my aperture opened up and my shutter speed not as fast as I would normally have had for birds moving. I like the sense of motion this shot portrays.

The stare down, the battle, and having had enough. This sums up the Ring-necked Pheasant roosters' fight for territory.

Thanks, Mike! Yes, I planned it with the PhotoPills app to know where to be at during that time. It was in the winter at about 20ºF with a piercing 20kt wind blowing at me off the ocean making it a -10ºF. Still worth it!

I've heard that it is more frequent (I'm sure far between, tho) and quite large.
