It's ok, Jacob, I'll be there in a couple of months and I'll sort it.

There will be nothing normal about this summer or, no matter what happens, this fall. Except of course for my normal approach to my sabbatical, to whit: get the hell out of Dodge.
And those in attendance will skew right due to lack of concern about carbon footprints and union solidarity, I suppose.
Took me a while.
By far and away my most cited paper is one I'm very fond of but that is a complete outlier to my research agenda. Apparently my readership would prefer that I do something else.
Present Me v. Future Me, by David Hume: 'In reflecting on any action, which I am to perform a twelve-month hence, I always resolve to prefer the greater good ... But on my nearer approach, those circumstances, which I first overlooked, begin to appear...' I hear you, Dave.
Congratulations!

The first news of the day I got was that police had been called in. Not on campus these days but that struck me as unwarranted.
This is a great idea. I had exercises but they were not strictly reading focused. And in my text-heavy course I did nothing specific to incentivise reading. Next year!

If anyone needs my attention in the next few days, tough luck. I'm reading The Adversary by Michael Crummey and am not in a position to put it down.
I completely agree! Watches are better than phones for telling time, and look much better on the wrist to boot.

I'm delighted to share the news that I will be at Sciences Po in Paris in autumn 2024. J'ai très hÒte de retrouver des collègues et ami.es à Sciences Po, en France, et un peu partout en Europe - et, bien sûr, de devenir un snob total par rapport aux croissants!
Penalty: 6 more months as chair.
