And let the fantastical side of our minds wonder.

But when he got close to the highway, occasional trucker chatter came through. He, being an atheist like me, assumed it was just some life saving coincidence that a trucker's call randomly made it through at that exact moment, and that it happened to be those two words. But we both like to muse.

Stood four moose. Moose that loomed suddenly into view. Moose he would surely have hit if he'd kept up the speeds he'd been at before.

He dodged them, and got to the highway safely, never passing anyone or seeing any indication there was someone who could have made that call.

And suddenly, out of nowhere on the VHF radio that had been utterly silent the whole time came a shout: "SLOW DOWN!". No lights on the road, no trucks, no traces of anybody, no radio chatter. Just those two words. But, he needed them. He slowed down.

A minute later, there, in the middle of road:

Not even a parked truck, nothing. Just himself, then the drillers. Most of the road was clear cut, with ditches along the sides. Nowhere for a parked truck to hide either.

And so he flew down the road, well over the kinds of speeds one should do on a gravel road at night. 100km/h or more (60+mph).

He drove to the drill, talked to the drillers and shut down the hole (they'd reached the anticipated rock type and should pack up to move to the next hole). He then got in his truck and started driving back up those 60km to the highway at around 2am. He had not seen a soul the whole way down.

Once I worked with this geologist, Ramin, and he shared this story with me, that once he was called out to a drill in the middle of the night. (Geologists keep track of the core and determine when to stop a hole and move to the next). This drill was 60km down a logging road in the middle of nowhere.

Aw damn. I've only made it a couple times myself and getting it strong enough is the challenge I've faced, and I did it in one shot both times, just needed to be more conscious of how much liquid to bone and ingredients I started with...

I had something kinda like this in my room growing up with an SNES hooked up. Later got the larger one from the living room when my parents got a newer one.
