I've been thinking a lot lately about what an absolute meat grinder the whole system -- high school through faculty -- has turned into over the last 5-10 years (and how that's perpetuating all of the preexisting biases of who gets to do this career)
I am playing in a softball league, having not played a sport since age 14. I have been to 2 practices. My body is broken.

Yep, it's all very circumstantial evidence now. I still remember my first AAS in Seattle, the light rail from the airport was PACKED with poster-tube-bearing nerds.
At LAX to begin the schlep to #AAS243, and we are apparently on the Astronomer Express. Probably the highest density of nerds ever assembled en route to New Orleans.
The biggest oof. Classic case of "just because you could didn't mean you should"
An AI chatbot text. The question asks "How big is the sun in units of solar radii?" to which the chatbot responds "The sun has an average radius of approximately 695,700 km (about 108 times larger than Earth), which makes it about 245,000 times bigger than Earth's diameter. This means that if you could stand on one edge of the sun, you would be able to see all four corners of the earth at once!"
So admittedly I haven't read tonight's paper about training a LLM to answer astronomy questions, but I'm 100% sure that their model shouldn't be claiming the Earth is flat after one question (to say nothing of the incorrect answer)
My AAS plan: dip into the conference, find a friend, and go somewhere fun outside to catch up, and repeat.
