Why it matters 🧠
🧩 Reveals a new lipid-binding regulator in cells
⚙️ Links SAPLIP family proteins to membrane lipid regulation
🧪 Opens questions: how is CNPY4 controlled? disease relevance?
Our work uncovers a new molecular player: CNPY4.
CNPY4, a saposin-like protein, directly binds sphingolipids
Loss or perturbation of CNPY4 disrupts lipid distribution + abundance → reshaping membrane architecture & possibly signaling pathways. This is a new layer of control in lipid homeostasis.
Happy to share our new preprint in collaboration with Natalia Jura's lab! 🧬
CNPY4 is a lipid-binding regulator of sphingolipid homeostasis

Sphingolipids shape membranes & signaling — but how their balance is maintained is still unclear.

YOUR PHONE EXISTS because the government invested in "useless" basic research decades ago!
It's the same with medical research - today's basic science leads to tomorrow's life-saving treatments.

Federal biomedical research represents less than 1% of the federal budget but delivers life-saving treatments for millions of American families.
93% of cancer treatments started with American government-funded research.

UCLA professor Bill Lowry: My current basic-research grant from the National Institutes of Health, which is a continuation of the work that led to this discovery on alopecia, was suspended last week. I don’t know what interesting discoveries won’t be made the longer this thing stays suspended. 🧪

Sorry to read this and glad you are on the mend!
Europe’s choice is clear.
To put science at the heart of its economy.
To become the home of scientific freedom and collaboration.
And to welcome talent from all over the world.
I’m glad to present the first elements of our Choose Europe Initiative.
