Correction: quadruple if fast charger used due to 20% VAT vs 5%
No you are right, itβs quadruple. I just used the 5% on both calculations!
I hope Rachel Reeves recognizes that #EV drivers already effectively pay a #fuelduty of around 0.5p/mile in #VAT on electricity to charge at home (double if fast charger used). Maybe my
#Free100 idea would be better than a per mile charge that will slow adoption!
Time to reflect. As someone once said (and think itβs true of the upper levels of US govt today): the wheel is spinning, but the hamster is deadβ¦
Yes, pretty good insulation. Large area of heating and cooling set up. Will probably go up to 30C max, donβt need it higher. Pumps can get up much more (and do the water for the house too).
Higher efficiency, bigger loads, winterization, and the fact we also have air-to-air source heat pumps as well. Totally removing the fossil dependency in any conditions.
Got our ground source heat pumps up and running yesterday. Operating at a paltry ~650% efficiency! PS we had two installed (and are 3-phase).
Death is a thief, it takes and keeps all that a person is, the person was, and was going to be! 17 years ago now. Sad to think about all he has missed in that time!
You can store the heat in the building shell itself (within reason). The battery enables that along with other activities to control peaks (& troughs) in consumption of electricity. Paired with solar, itβs a no-brainer when electrification is included - batteries shift power & building holds energy
Yes, Cal Newport!
1. Do fewer things at once.
2. Work at natural pace.
3. Obsess over quality.

I think this is the new place to be! Welcome refugee #energytwitter! (Picture from my walk last night)
Here's a starter pack for electric grid & power systems - lmk if you want me to add your account! (Omissions 100% unintentional, still finding folks here :-) ππ‘

A couple of weeks ago (@EnergySystemsIG), I announced that @VibrantCE, @CatalystCoop, @GridLabEnergy, Pattern Energy have released the RARE power dataset. If you want it, too, just go here: zenodo.org/records/139375β¦ (or download with PUDL - a great resource BTW).

Yes, itβs a historical look from 204 through 2023 (first release is 2019-2023).
Second great (short) video created by @catalyst.coop (this time of the solar data).
Great (short) video created by @catalyst.coop of the wind data. @ricoconnell.bsky.social
Very excited to be releasing this open-source dataset for use by power planners and modelers, alike. This will fill a gap in data needs for long term planning and resource adequacy studies!

Very well organized discussion of FERC's upcoming regional transmission planning rule. Highly recommend!
Bottom line: Most utilities/RTOs are not planning transmission for the future, so FERC's rule must try to force them to do it.
But can FERC force utilities to actually plan transmission?
If we had started reducing emissions in 2000 the world would have had a gentle slope downward to limit warming to well-below 2C.
23 years later we face a steep decent to limit warming to 2C, and a near-cliff to achieve 1.5C without substantial net-negative global emissions.
