Great to see you coming to CA.
Great to see you coming to CA.
Living near LA, I met Dr. Shoup a few times. I thanked him for his earth-shaking work on parking. He thanked me for helping make UCLA campus more bike friendly. Envying those who studied under him. Rest in Peace, Dr.
Hi Roger, we met at the NACTO reception during TRB. Lots of respect for the work in your state.
I got a copy but itβs still in the queue.
Itβs a huge honor to hear today that I have been named an honorary member of the Institute of Transportation Engineers. As
a walk bike person I have often felt a little off center, but this assures me that itβs the right track.
I have seen the Chicago study. One long busy street with multiple treatments.
I think there may be a local setting issue. I feel they work ok on slow streets for trailblazing but not on busier streets where riders stay in the door zone. But feelings are not evidence and should be proven.
#trbam Iβm here a day early. Itβs cold outside.
CA police collision reports take the addresses of the drivers. ID info is supposed to be redacted from copies given to the public to preserve privacy but itβs not always done.
Behind TRB paywall. Used to be free. I can send a personal copy if you canβt access.

I wrote my version of the Forester story in a TRB paper a few years ago. First heard his name when doing early biking research in Davis. Another chapter of the book I will never write.
You almost always see Orcas on Alaska cruises in the panhandle areas. Orca this far south is very unusual.
I drove past on Spring St only about an hour ago.
Itβs an honor to be asked to contribute to this journal. The saga of getting a state law changed. Every 20mph sign I see makes it worthwhile.
Wow. I didnβt know it was out yet.
This new AASHTO bike guide should provide the level of detail for bikes. It may also reduce hesitation to employ. But it is a separate publication and not $ free. The graphic shows many non road design features such as continuous bldg faces, sidewalk adjacent, no driveways, no parking.
I think for the US that NACTO urban street design guide comes close. There might be an FHWA publication that I am not aware of. These guides are not as detailed as AASHTO and state guides. It will ultimately require merging of multiple sources of guidance and sorting of responsibilities.
@tracktwentynine.bsky.social is that yours on the cover?
Ordered my copy.
Most of the traffic engineers on this platform ride bikes. Time is spent trying to get acceptance of new ideas from those who donβt.
Iβve been fooled before. Promise??!
New research report discourages skinny bike lanes between through lanes and long right turn lanes. Favors separation.

I feel the same way. So I put a photo with some slight relevance in and get no likes. I guess I need to think it out better.
You always hear about the big cities, but you can see scenes like this in small cities and towns if you travel. Basel SW.
Most anywhere in continental Europe. Basel SW.
Impressive results. Next challenge is to get those in control to be aware of the results.
It takes a cityβ¦or a bunch of them.
Will people know the timer is related to the appearance of the Walk?
I like that Matt is experimenting but yours is ultimately better suited. Do I need an experiment permit to install? one?
Glad to see bikedelaware under the blue sky. One of my favorite state bike advocacy groups, helping push DE to the front.
CA has a guideline for a long minimum green based on bicycle startup and clearance.
