My goal this week is to protect my peace. Iโm going to take a deep breath instead of reacting to frustrations as they arise. Whoโs with me?

My cup is so full after spending last week at the Keystone Meeting on Hematopoiesis. Time with cutting-edge science, supportive mentors & colleagues, and getting to share this with members of my lab was priceless. Excited to bring new ideas back to the lab - blood rules! โฅ๏ธ๐ฉธ
Heck yeah, I do!!!!! Clean lab, clean mind ๐
Excited to visit Penn later this week and share my career journey with graduate students. Penn took a chance on me 15+ years ago, and Iโll always be grateful for how it helped shape such a rewarding path.
"The only reason I donโt have this funding is because my last name is Rodriguez,โ he said. โIt has nothing to do with the science."

Shoutout to first author, Isabella Alves, a @damonrunyon.org SPARK postbaccalaureate fellow and rising star in hematology. Very proud to see this work in print and honored to have had the opportunity to review the original article and learn more about the coolness of ferroptosis๐ฉธ๐ฎ
Truly enjoyed writing this piece about recent discoveries by @bloodgenes.bsky.social and colleagues about how we can improve HSC expansion & gene editing by blocking ferroptosis!

This faculty journey would be so much harder without a best friend to go through it with. We share all the drama, all the wins, and all the in between. I hope every PI finds a person who gets them like we get each other - thank for @myron_evansPhD this and every season โฅ๏ธ ๐

I've been working hard to bring the most Tina Termini to hematopoiesis. So far, so good!
Applications are open for the 2026 Zara Weinberg cohort of Leading Edge, named in honor of the incredible, brilliant, fearless @weinberz.witchlab.org.

Thank you for your bravery as an advocate for honest and accurate science, for your passion to pursue the mission of human health, for your service to the nation, and for being a role model to us all. May HHS and NIH leadership see the light and course correct for the benefit of all Americans ๐
Trumpโs HHS put me on โnon-disciplinaryโ admin leave today. This was retaliation for speaking up. Moves like this are designed to silence us. Letโs not let.

If you find yourself in a mismatch, itโs okay for a mentor or a mentee say, โthis is a mismatchโ, or โI canโt give you what you needโ and follow a path to another opportunity. Itโs not a failure, itโs actually a sign of maturity and self-awareness.
That doesnโt mean to discount what lab personnel sayโฆ but you might desire more hands-off mentoring and space for creativity while someone else might need more hands-on training, more frequent check ins, or directives. Everyone is different.
Not every mentor is for every person. I always tell grad students to listen to what folks in the lab say about a mentor, but itโs okay to also see it for yourself in a rotation. Itโs about the match - finding the person who can meet your needs (which are unique!).
