Oh dear, another one saying: "Fukushima wasn't a game changer". Rather than taking the change in risk assessment seriously, you dismiss it. Your only argument is: "Nothing bad will happen, and even if it does, it won't be so bad". That's not as convincing an argument as you seem to think it is.
Bye
It's this simple:
1. Since Fukushima, new plants need to be able to withstand the unthinkable, not just the likely. But they won't do that because it would make nuclear power even more expensive.
2. If just one major accident happens to a nuclear reactor in Europe, they'll all be shut down.
A great read!

A great update on the Iran War shambles ... πππ
I'm seriously thinking that Trump knows he's dying and he's trying to get through some crazy, tyrannical bucket list before he goes. Who knows what or who is the next to suffer on it.

Oh dear. That's like asking if someone died "with" Covid or "Because of Covid". π€¦ββοΈ Totally disingenuous. To suggest that Fukushima was "no big deal" puts you firmly in a corner where not many people will join you.
Have a great evening.
Shawn McCreesh just catapulted his name recognition and salary-worth a dozen steps up the ladder. Other journalists need to read what's happening and realise there's more of a career in demanding answers than kissing arse.
Starmer once again signalling left but turning right. π‘

My take on this is that it's one of those issues that needs to stand above politics. We need an open, measured, balanced national debate about where the problems are and what's needed. But ...
1. Our politics isn't adult.
2. Labour seems to be trying to press this through on the quiet.
I simply don't understand, in the current situation, what makes this political risk worthwhile. Is it really a hill the government wants to fight its last fight on?
Heartbreaking.
Of the last 16 Home Secretaries, 5 have gone out of their way to identify themselves personally with the "Hostile Environment" (6 if you count Braverman twice). 3 have been Tories, 2 Labour β and it's hard to tell any of their anti-immigrant propaganda apart.

Your certainty about things "never happening" is commendable. But it also ignores the risk factor to the various sectors. If there's a renewable supergau, it changes little. If there's a nuclear supergau, the whole European nuclear sector will get shut down. That's a lot of investment down the drain
Nonsense. Saying things won't happen coz they're unlikely to happen is not aceptable since Fukushima. Nuclear power inside the reactor is safe, but I've had no satisfactory answer about outside influences due to war or climate change. As for your "anti-science" argument, that's just silly.
... "Fukushima was easily avoidable and it didn't cause much harm" .... Well, I think you've revealed yourself to be something of a nuclear-power zealot with that.
Have a nice evening.
Yes. Nuclear reactors are definitely safer than wind turbines. π
Ah, so you simply prefer nuclear power to renewables. Nuff said.
Just wait until you hear about the wind, and batteries, and cross-European networks, it'll blow your mind.
That's not an answer. You are deflecting from a real concern by using the "That wouldn't happen" argument made redundant by Fukushima.
Actually, I supported it until Fukushima. Then I supported Merkel's renewed risk assesment about the unthinkable no longer being impossible. You call me a "smartass" because I ask questions you can't really answer without reverting to the "That wouldn't happen" scenario made redundant by Fukushima.
So they could, but they don't. π
Yawn. You can't answer the question so you revert to the "That wouldn't happen" argument that's been redundant since Fukushima.
