I would rather read a box of dialog like I had to in the old days than have some cheap slop drone in my ears. I'd rather a dev put in an over the top or a flat read delivery. Hell, I'd rather hear old school text to speech. Literally any other option is better than AI Slop dialog, I'm begging you.
I don't care if it was "ethically sourced" from a VA and you pay them residuals every time you make a new line for them or whatever. I'd rather you hire a good VA you can bring back to touch up lines or add new ones every so often. It sounds better, truly.
Stop using being small as an excuse.
Yeah, it's not all great voice work, but it's infinitely more charming than whatever slop these systems make.
I get that not all devs want to hear their own voices, people hate the sound of their own voice a lot, but I will 100% be more interested in a game that does that than putting in AI slop.
Just went through my Steam Wishlist and found that at least four games I had marked as interesting had added AI disclosures, nearly all of them for AI voices.
One even tried to make it sound like they were making the decision to make it sound perfect.
There are free mods with voice work, I swear.
