A smaller companion galaxy, NGC 5195, is visible at the end of one of the spiral arms, appearing as a glowing yellowish nebula. The pair is set against a dark, velvety black background punctuated by several sharp, distant stars.
Messier 51, the Whirlpool Galaxy in the constellation Canes Venatici. Distance around 24 mio ly. Image taken on March 7, 2026, at the peak of the Saharan dust cloud. Therefore, only 118 out of 351 images turned out reasonably well. Total exposure time: 1 hour 58 minutes.

Star-Reduced Version * Balanced Composition: This version maintains the context of the stellar neighborhood while significantly shrinking the star diameters to ensure they do not overwhelm the delicate nebular filaments. * Trapezium Region: The reduction helps clarify the area around the core, allowing the bright, central emission to transition more smoothly into the surrounding dust lanes.

Weniger Wolken wären der Hit. Der ganze letzte Winter war geprägt von Wolken und ganz neu bei uns, Nebel. Oft scheint den ganzen Tag die Sonne mit wenig bis keiner Bewölkung und sobald die Sonne untergeht steigt der Nebel auf etwa 900 bis 1000m. Echt frustrierend.
Der Frühling kommt schon nächste Woche. Anscheinend ab Mittwoch +15°C. Dann ist der ganze weiße Zauber wieder weg. Wünsche ebenfalls ein schönes Wochenende
