Doubting, it's only been a year.
“For the last few years, Niantic Spatial has been taking the data collected from players of Pokémon Go and Ingress (Niantic’s previous phone-based AR game, launched in 2013) and building a visual positioning system, technology that tells you where you are based on what you can see.”

"Dude where's my privacy?"
Wish that @mullvad.bsky.social were on here so they could share their brilliant thread and blog on Ashton Kutcher's company Thorn lobbying the EU for chat control and surveillance of EU citizens.

It's always a good day to leave Google's products.
The link is about Gemini in the browser, but Gemini in your mail was hacked just this August by security researchers.

This is a wonderful way to approach it, similar to how we're cleaning the oceans of plastic - to use a not quite fitting metaphor as in that case limiting plastic should probably also be applied.
But asking the providers to comply, rather than surveillance of the individual is good.
The graphic displays a red padlock at the center, surrounded by two robotic hands. A world map appears in the background. The text criticizes foreign-funded lobby groups advocating for the “ChatControl” law.
🇪🇺 1/7 🌍 Foreign-funded lobby groups from outside the EU are pushing #ChatControl with misleading propaganda. They want to #PassTheLaw to scan your chats, but who are they and who's paying them? Let's expose the network.

This infographic, created by the European Pirates in the European Parliament, is titled “4 Better Alternatives to Chat Control” and is divided into three main sections: Top: “Security by Design” – safe apps that empower rather than monitor young people. A person is shown holding a smartphone. Middle: “Preventing Circulation of Material” – with the subtitle “4 Better Alternatives to Chat Control”. Bottom: “Cleaning the Net” – featuring three illustrated suggestions: Automatic crawling of online content Obligating providers to remove clearly illegal material Law enforcement agencies report illegal content to providers The graphic advocates for digital safety and privacy, with more information available at www.chatcontrol.eu.
6/7 ✅ Let's focus on what works. Security by design. Clean the web. Mandatory takedowns. Flooding systems won't work. Back the EU Parliament's balanced 2023 proposal—it fights grooming/abuse without mass scanning. https://www.patrick-breyer.de/en/posts/chat-control/#epmandate 🔒

MCG proudly refuses the use of AI in art, writing, and all of our products and communications—including social media! Yes, I'm a real person :)
I agree, it's not a good label to have and definitely can be abused.
Screenshot of my post settings. Visibility is set to public and "who can quote" is set to Anyone.
There might have been an update to how that works since then. I'm on Mastodon.art and I can see posts from blocked instances in my Following Feed if I follow them.
Just double checked with someone who follows me on .social if they could see my posts too and they could. These are my post settings:
Jinx.
I found a temporary solution. You can turn off "Rude", but it's on as a default. :S
I think this might be in relation to calling out the Atproto LLM discourse that's been sweeping the place over the last half week or so.
I have no doubt either. It's more obvious here I reckon due to the lack of "specific algorithm". Over there they just suppress your reach or ban your account in some cases. They ban here too ofc, but they can't suppress someone the same way, so they do this blatant thing that is way more obvious. 🫠
screenshot of searching for "Paul Rietschk" on Bsky and choosing People, yielding no result because he's been labelled rude.
I made a mistake in the first one and didn't change it to people for screenshot (I did when I first checked), so here's the proof that it actually doesn't show him.
@brianpenny.bsky.social see the above. It gets worse! 🤯

screenshot of searching for "Paul Rietschka" on Bsky, yielding a result but had to write out his whole name or handle to find him because of his being labelled rude.
No, it's @prietschka.bsky.social .
Also just found out that he's hidden from search. If I don't write his name exactly, but for instance one letter short (see image examples) it doesn't show up in search.
This is F***d up!
One of the people I follow on here has gotten the label "rude" assigned to them and now all of their posts are hidden and labelled "rude".
Plus their comments are hidden. Yeah, this doesn't bode well and definitely can't be abused.
