Wanna build up a good music collection *without* paying a single dollar or sailing the seven seas? Libraries. Check out as many CD's as you want and listen to them, rip them, talk with your friends about them, find new musical tastes your didn't know you had with them.
Seriously, switch to Linux. It's not as hard as you may think it is. Mint, Ubuntu, and Elemental are all super easy to get into as a beginner. You'll learn a little about computers while doing it but it's about as easy as one can get.
Slowly but surely switching all of my operating systems to open source. PC? Linux. Music? Rockbox. Kindle? Koreader. Next up to see if I can jailbreak my printer

100% my appreciation and love for music as an artform was rekindled this past year when I (mostly) ditched streaming and got an old iPod working again. If the 3rd gen Nano doesn't work (due to batter or whathaveyou) recommend picking up a 4th gen classic and watching dankpods to mod it yourself
