After years in making, I am glad to be able to share our attempt on establishing a framework for combined functional and computational assessment of variant pathogenicity in the sodium leak channel NALCN:

βItβs the company that matters!β
This is certainly true for acid-sensing ion channel 1a, whose function is modulated by the presence of monocarboxylate transporter 1
All was made possible by the drive & curiosity of the fantastic @mette-h-poulsen.bsky.social

LA applies soooooo much negative pressure that it skips cell-attached and goes straight into whole-cell. βοΈπ΄ποΈπ€π»πΏ
Grateful for the hands-on learning and supportive environment at #ACAN! ππ¬ Iβm absolutely in love with the spirit of ACAN and hope to carry that forward in how I approach science in the future.
#ACAN turned 20 this year and will remain in Sydney for the next two years! π If you're interested in expanding your neuroscience toolkit and connecting with an incredible network of researchers, I highly recommend applying. It is an intense but rewarding experience you wonβt forget! #Neuroscience
Huge thanks to the organisers of #ACAN for putting together such an incredible course! It is clear how much time, effort, and coordination went into making this happen. Organising something of this scale is no small featβthank you for making it such a memorable experience! π
The long days (starting at 9 am and experimenting until midnight) were exhausting, but getting to share the experience with a wonderful cohort of students and demonstrators made it incredibly rewarding. @mitaliano.bsky.social @raphapricci.bsky.social @mrdinatale.bsky.social @sushmithasp.bsky.social
Patching neurons (and dendrites) for the first time was so much FUN!!! β‘ It's been a while since I last patched (back in May 2021 during my postdoc at @plesslab.bsky.social), so it was great to revisit these techniques and pick up new skillsβespecially while being (literally) surrounded by experts.
I had a wonderful time attending @acancourse.bsky.social (ans.org.au/acan)! The intensive three-week #ACAN course covered many different modern neuroscience techniques including electrophysiology, optogenetics, and animal behaviour. π§ π¬β‘
