Didn't plan it, but 1st yr as an all-girl lab. Congrats to our intern Valentina Rodriguez Cortes (High Distinction) & our honours student Anastasia Karafotias (1st Class Honours). Good luck to both for their futures! A challenging but a good yr as we've researched #ovariancancer & #endometriosis. 🧪
Pleased to announce the first speaker in our @sinclaircri.bsky.social 2026 seminar series! Dr. Haase of UBC Nursing, hosted by our CCE division's Dr. Galica, will be presenting on Jan 22nd. Everyone is welcome! Qs? Please email scri@queensu.ca @queensuhealth.bsky.social @queensuresearch.bsky.social
Our @sinclaircri.bsky.social Dr Mueller & PhD student Sydney Shepherd are studying mDETECT, a simple blood test that looks for DNA changes to help find & track ovarian cancer. They recently sat down for a Q&A with #OvarianCanada. More on this important research ⬇️

Also, the Old White Dude issue is real but only because the universities go after big names instead of future potential (to boost their marketing). IMHO, they should focus on people at the assistant/assoc prof level. Not full profs. The younger are far more likely to have impact and stay. /2
Some great advice here for both new and experienced supervisors. The hardest one for me is “Rule 2: Define the scope – then halve it!”- must remember this next time 🤓
