I appreciate @annenberginstitute.bsky.social writing this great summary of my work on four-day school weeks.
While there may be some short-term cost savings, there are no effects on teacher, principal, or paraprofessional staff turnover.
Four day school weeks do not reduce staff turnover edworkingpapers.com/ai25-1208
Great work from @katherinembowser.bsky.social showing that the purported staff retention gains of reduced school weeks don't actually materialize
4-day school weeks: Still a bad idea, regardless of the outcome you're trying to optimize

Per @chadaldeman.bsky.social "school district leaders in some of the biggest, most expensive places to live are making budgetary decisions that add to the housing difficulties in their communities." Read the rest of his analysis here: 3/n
Thanks, @chadaldeman.bsky.social for highlighting my work and for adding the crucial point that these skyrocketing housing costs aren't a teacher-specific problem. While ed leaders can't carry the weight of the U.S. housing market on their shoulders, many decisions being made aren't helping. 2/n
In many large districts, I found that teachers five years into their careers have less purchasing power as renters and homebuyers than when they started. And, since 2019, the cost of rent skyrocketed by 51%, far surpassing novice teachers' 24% salary increase. See my full NCTQ report here 1/n
Congratulations, Matt! Now itβs your turn to celebrate!
