What a wonderful Re-engage tea party this afternoon. With our guests we enjoyed wreath making, a lovely spread for tea and then some carol singing.
If you can spare one afternoon a month to volunteer at a tea party please do get involved - it is fabulous 🥰.

@cpaguk.bsky.social have published a new report this week 'the cost of school meal debt' "which looks at the challenges facing schools when implementing a means-tested school meal system, the levels of school meal debt in the system and how this impacts on pupils, families and schools."

There's a fully-funded PhD Scholarship for Black British Applicants at my partner's law school. Pass it on to anyone who might find it useful. Could change someone's life. www.jobs.ac.uk/job/DKP136/p...

"Complexity is a feature, not a bug"
Anywhere you get lots of humans, you will necessarily get complexity.
This is another painful but crucial report published by the Institute for Public Policy Research, www.ippr.org/articles/who.... As Richard has said in his post, how do we do better in the current circumstances?
That’s perfect 👌
Excited to be publishing a major piece of teacher, parent and student opinion research on the ever-challenging subject of exclusions.
Thanks to the support of @mission44, we were able to carry out what was, I think, the ever biggest exercise of its kind on this subject. 1/10
My map of children's independent bookshops is updated regularly. Most provide an online service and they're all run by people who can make well-informed book recommendations. Make sure you support your local one if you want to keep it. Any missing, please let me know. padlet.com/Jon_Biddle/r...
Anyone miss this? If so, find a min to look if you can. Listening to the podcasts by Class Divide since I saw it first and reading about the campaign they are leading to try and tackle this in Brighton and Hove. Would recommend www.classdivide.co.uk/podcast
Sorry! I think this is the first snow in Shrewsbury for about 2 years if that makes you feel any better 😂
Yes it’s fascinating and disturbing in equal proportions. Listening to the podcasts by Class Divide since and reading about the campaign they are leading to try and tackle this in Brighton and Hove. Would recommend www.classdivide.co.uk/podcast
It’s important that everyone’s views and experiences are represented in this call for evidence on curriculum & assessment in England.
Some groups, such as people of colour, have not always been well represented.
If that’s you, please do complete & share!

This is a surprise !
At TEAL have recently been looking at what schools typically offer in terms of maternity or family leave benefits. I am delighted that today we have officially launched a significantly enhanced package of support, which we will apply for all leave that commenced from 1 September 2024.
This is what my earlier thread was about. The details here matter and teachers will be closest to those details 👇
More of this…
“At the same time, many children, particularly those living in deprived families and communities, are finding less time to play at home or in other spaces such as after-school clubs.”
Welcome to the better platform ! Great to have you here 🥰
@echarman.bsky.social Great to see another school governor pop up on here - welcome. There is a feed #UKEdGovs to use on governance posts and I have made a list of anyone I find with governance/governing in their bio
Just back from a fabulous reengage.org.uk tea party at www.shrewsburyflaxmillmaltings.org.uk
Fascinating behind the scenes tour then delicious food by Turned Wood Cafe. Cannot recommend it highly enough.
Thank you to Heritage England for the community micro grant that made this possible too.
