IXL.com, one of my favourite class resources, has released an AI-powered workspace: Spark Studio. I’m going to spend the next few weeks and months exploring what Spark Studio can, and cannot do for us in the classroom.

Yesterday I set a task that was too challenging for my students. It went so, so poorly. By the end we were all frustrated with each other.

Yeah, the real learning opportunity in this tech is for highly knowledgeable students to critique what the AI presents.
Of course: it’s an easy thing and I could see myself - exhausted at the end of a long week - just letting my 5th graders have these chats because it LOOKS like learning.

The only value in this exercise would be if students who already know about these figures were having these chats to learn about the failings and pitfalls of AI.
Of course, this is easy and there is money to be made here, so these chats will replace research soon.
