Dear my delightful tweeps, some news! So after 30 years of City Hall and urban-issues stories that you all know, I'm doing something completely different β€” I’ve decided to run for a City Council nomination with @onecityvan.bsky.social and hopefully run on their slate this October.

I've been a fishing boat deckhand, covered six mayors, and endured more than a dozen municipal political parties. I spent five agonizing years building a laneway house for my family. Point is, I don't scare easily and I’m not afraid of hard work.

I'm ready to come to wherever you want to gather a dozen people or so, whether it's a park bench, your living room, a meeting space in your building or whatever so I can hear your thoughts on what you want from the city and you can get to know me more.

Membership Dues Building a Vancouver for Everyone

So, yikes, here I go! Hyperventilating a bit, excited, moved to action. If you want to support me to get a spot on the OneCity slate, I absolutely need you to become a member by April 10 to vote in the early May nomination. www.onecityvancouver.ca/f6469

What does "Pro-Growth, Pro-Housing, Pro-Worker Practical Progressivism" actually mean?

When William says β€œpro-growth, pro-housing, pro-worker,” he’s not trying to win a slogan contest.

He’s describing the kind of Vancouver we need to build again.

Speaking of strong women under the @onecityvan.bsky.social banner, welcome to the party, @fabulavancouver.bsky.social and good luck in the nomination!

Watercolour painting of a lone soul in a rowboat on an overcast day, the colours in the water & sky are the murky purples, blues, yellows & browns of stormy weather.

Text on painting says β€˜when the world is filled with evil, transform challenges into the path of awakening’ which is a sentiment from the Tibetan Buddhist Lojong tradition to train the mind.

This sentiment feels appropriate rn & comes from Lojong:

About 15 yes ago, I took a class in this particular tradition of Tibetan Buddhism

I like that this painting is far from perfect & that the sentence starts out better (the letters are clearer) than it endsβ€”that happens in life!

β€œLittle Island opened on May 21, 2021 as an oasis for New Yorkers, with more than two acres of magnificent landscape, distinctive architecture, dazzling views and an abundance of free education programs and performances.

After a year of isolation due to the Covid-19 pandemic, visitors embraced the essential need for a connection to nature, art and community β€” we hosted more than 1M visitors in our inaugural year!

Little Island continues to benefit from the generosity and commitment of the Diller-von Furstenberg Family Foundation.

Another design consideration was to choose plants that offer year-round character, so each time you come, the colors and textures evolve in response to the seasons. Call it a choreography of seasonal delight.”

In politics and public service, integrity and grit are more than desirable traits, it is the foundation that enables trust, legitimacy, and meaningful progress.
Integrity ensures that decisions are rooted in principle and that the public interest remains at the forefront.
I had the pleasure of serving our province as an MLA, and if you're going to run for office, you have to have fire in your belly.
So, listen up.
William Azaroff is the real deal.

William has fire in his belly, and integrity in spades. I have seen this demonstrated in his leadership style, by his active listening approach, his willingness to involve others in meaningful dialogue and action. This is what leadership looks like. This is the kind of leadership our city needs.

Invisible Illness by Emily Mendenhall - Hardcover Scholarship is a powerful tool for changing how people think, plan, and govern. By giving voice to bright minds and bold ideas, we seek to foster understanding and drive progressive change.

Another day, another ECG. Life with heart damage from covid.

Having long covid feels like living in an alternate reality where I've been left behind. My friend @emendenhall.bsky.social makes the invisible visible in her powerful new book

I'm proud to accept the endorsement of former City Councillor, Mayor, Leader of the Opposition, and Premier of BC, Mike Harcourt.

Mike Harcourt governed this city during a time of great change and great optimism. We need big changes in Vancouver. And we need to bring that spirit of optimism back.

A long, weathered wooden pier at Taylor Dock in Bellingham, Washington, extends from a pebbled beach into the calm waters of Bellingham Bay. The pier is supported by heavy timber pilings anchored in square concrete blocks, with the repetitive architectural lines receding toward hazy blue mountains on the horizon. A lone figure in a wide-brimmed hat stands on the boardwalk, looking out over the water under a clear, pale sky. The image features a muted, cinematic color grade with earthy, desaturated tones.

When I took this photo, I had no idea a man was staring down at me from the pier at the time. Typically, I'd remove the distraction, but I left him in because I like his hat. πŸ˜†
