I lived thru the end of public smoking. Early in my career I presented to city councils who were smoking, in front of audiences who were smoking.
Smoking in restaurants, airplanes, hospitals…
All of that seems insane now, but it was very controversial when we DID change it.

I am also shocked by the lack of coverage of this fire. It’s so far only affecting the Union Street buildings, but one of those has partially collapsed, from what I can tell backwards into the station. And it’s not yet contained. This is major and more than halfway down BBC’s homepage.
The other thing is accessibility. Lots of stations surrounding Central (and much of the subway) are not step-free, so people rely on the lifts at Central.
I am genuinely not looking forward to trying to get to campus tomorrow.

Threadjacking my own thread: BC has just passed a law staying on permanent daylight savings time. Question: I don't spend any time in Arizona so I'm curious: does your phone automagically update when you cross the state border? As in: is it just like any other time zone change?
Docter and many other old timers at Pixar wanted to deal with heavier, more serious issues like grief and emotional regulation, with tons of “therapy speak” in Inside Out, Wall-E, and Up. But when it’s queer themes it’s all “Back off loser, I’m not your therapist. I’m just here to sell popcorn!”
