Weekday-only rail service, schedules, and moving averages for the purple line
CTA rail service looked much more stable in Feb. Brown line fully out of it's slump.
Have any Purple line frequenters noticed a slight bump in service? The average has been hovering at or above fall levels for a solid 2 months now.
month-over-month percent changes for VMT, transit ridership, and gas prices. VMT and Transit consistently see their biggest increases from Feb to March
Indicator I'm watching:
How will an early-March gas price spike impact the usual month-over-month increases in VMT and Public Transit Ridership between Feb and March?

Great Highway, a former 4 lane road turned to park space. View facing North.
It doesn’t take a big expensive project to create better park space.
All you need to do is give the streets back to people.
A map showing the increase in units allowed by right for Chicago parcels if HB 5626 passes. The map shows Chicago with parcels colored blue (1 unit increase), green (2-3 units), orange (4-5 units), and red (6-7 units). Many parcels are also uncolored, indicating no increase in the units allowed. Chicago's community area boundaries are also shown.
In the gov's State of the State speech, he championed a "missing middle" zoning reform bill that would legalize at least two units on any 2500+ sqft parcel allowing single-family homes.
By my calculation, that'd increase the by-right zoning capacity in Chicago by at least 775,000 units. Some notes:

One of the most inspiring parts of being a Chicagoan is the angry mob that instantly materializes any time Redefine the Drive is being discussed by a state or local entity. I love it.

Bluesky Draft: Brandon Johnson? More like Brandon gone-son!
365 days until the 2027 Chicago Mayoral Election
Every week I see a new housing proposal article from Block Club getting blasted on here for only quoting its opponents in their coverage, even when public comments were mixed or mostly supportive.
Is the criticism a just Bluesky echo chamber thing? Does this framing fly with everyone else?
Or you could pave over the whole thing and get a few more parking spots in there!
Impossible to say which is better.
I swear the Chicago Parks District has an even bigger parking lot fetish than CDOT
Not surprised at all that CPD’s innovative new proposal for Soldier Field is spending $500m to put more cars in the parks

River North and South Loop both added a ton of density but have never really made the streetscape upgrades to match.
Would love to see West Loop take that next step.

If we ever get to a point where those are the two options being considered I will be declaring complete and total victory, regardless of which is chosen.
