For months, ICE has been running around Minnesota with no accountability. The community has responded, like this volunteer street medic who was out the day Alex Pretti was killed.
ICE presence may have slowed some, but Minnesotans are still looking for justice.
Text: I was honored to be one of U.S. Rep. Ilhan Omar’s guests to the State of the Union. As school board chair in Columbia Heights, I’ve been working closely with her and her team as our district faced unprecedented attacks from the Trump administration. The racism and unlawfulness that drove Operation Metro Surge was on full display Tuesday night, as Trump launched a bigoted tirade against our state and against Somali people in particular.

She spoke for all Minnesotans who felt betrayed by the federal government, who were horrified by a masked paramilitary invasion of our communities, who have been mourning our neighbors Renee Good and Alex Pretti while we organized to support our immigrant friends and neighbors. She spoke to the sorrow and terror that many of us have felt this year, and she crystallized it into the anger that is burning within so many of us.

After Alex Pretti was killed, neighbors distributed supplies as they raised their voices to show ICE is not welcome in our community - or any community.
Aliya Rahman, woman who was dragged out of car by ICE in Minneapolis: "I've spent the last month learning the names of the tendons in my shoulder, because both of my shoulders are torn -- cartilage and tendons. But what I haven't learned is the names of the people who did this to me."
